🤖 Nearly 30 middle school students recently explored through community advocacy and zine-making during the 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 showcase, an NSF-funded research project led by INFO Professors 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗘𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲 and Tamara Clegg in collaboration with Associate Professor Afiya Fredericks, PhD of Morgan State University.

Over two weeks, the program empowered students to examine AI through culturally responsive, community-centered learning while helping prepare teachers to bring these approaches into their classrooms. The experience culminated in a Friday Showcase attended by INFO Dean 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼𝘁 and students’ families, celebrating the ideas, creativity, and advocacy of the next generation.

📚 What can archival discoveries reveal about history?

MLIS student Nick Gentry ’26 uncovered a rare early draft of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” while processing an archival collection at Virginia Theological Seminary. His discovery highlights the vital role of archives, preservation, and information professionals in uncovering and protecting primary sources that deepen our understanding of history.

In addition to serving as co-editor, Paletz first-authored two chapters, contributing research grounded in psychology and team science.

The ebook launches July 23, with the print edition available August 13.
