The University of Maryland School of Public Health was formally launched in 2007 and is built on a foundation of disciplines that originated over 150 years ago with the formation of the university. The SPH is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and is ranked 20th among all schools and programs of public health by US News and World Report (2022). Our close proximity to both our
state and national capitals provide unparalleled opportunities for faculty and students to work with key government health agencies, non-profit associations, public policy organizations and private corporations. The SPH is comprised of six academic units: Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Kinesiology, Family Science, Behavioral and Community Health, Health Policy and Management and the Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health. Faculty and graduate students are involved in a broad range of scientific endeavors that contribute to the advancement of knowledge with a focus on basic and applied research aimed at enhancing health and well-being across the lifespan.
