Congratulations and well deserved Dr. Mereish!

Congratulations to UMD Department of Psychology Associate Professor Ethan Mereish, who was recently presented with the 36th Annual Early Career Investigator Award by the Research Society on Alcohol (RSA), the world’s largest scientific research organization devoted to understanding the causes and complications of alcohol use and alcohol-related problems, and to promoting effective strategies for prevention, intervention, and sustained behavior change!

We are thrilled to announce that esteemed television journalist Gayle King ’76 will deliver our 2023 commencement address! 🎉 King will address summer 2022, winter 2022 and spring 2023 graduates, family and friends during the ceremony at SECU Stadium on May 22.

King, who Time magazine has listed among the most influential people in the world, graduated from UMD with a degree in psychology. She has received numerous awards for her extensive work as a journalist, including three Emmys. In 2018 she was inducted into the Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame and in 2023 was the 39th recipient of the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.

After a two-year hiatus, the University of Maryland President’s Commission on Women’s Issues named three 2022 Women of Influence award recipients: Utsa Santhosh, Tami Lee, and the UMD Department of Psychology's Tracy Riggins (pictured).
