LGBTQ Studies at the University of Maryland The LGBTQ Studies Program is housed in the Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality

The certificate in LGBTQ Studies is a 21-credit interdisciplinary course of study comprised of 15 required and 6 elective credits. The minor in LGBT Studies is a 15-credit interdisciplinary course of study comprised of 12 required and 3 elective credits. The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies seeking an Program Administrative Specialist to provide program support for graduate and undergraduate activities; Serve as the primary contact for the Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure review process; Maintain and manage the department website, communications, and social media presence; Manage departmental events; Provide general and routine administrative office support; and Manage departmental use of shared spaces and facilities. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. We prefer an applicant with experience supporting a program or department at UMCP.

The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies will host their first annual celebration of Harriet Tubman Day—to mark the department’s name change—on Wednesday, March 10, from 1-3 p.m. Speakers include Ernestine (Tina) Wyatt, a descendant of Harriet Tubman and a UMD alum, as well as faculty and students who have been inspired to draw on Harriet Tubman’s legacy in their work.

In summer 2020, the Department of Women Studies was renamed The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, culminating a two-year effort by faculty, staff and administrators. This event celebrates the new name and Harriet Tubman’s remarkable legacy.
