Join the LGBTQ+ Equity Center and students, faculty and staff from across campus for our second annual BIG Q***R PHOTO on Thursday, May 8th, 2025 from 11:00am-1:00pm on the McKeldin Mall Steps!!! 🏳️‍🌈🐢🏳️‍⚧️

We invite the campus community to come together to take our annual Q***r class photo as a visible display of our support for Q***r and Trans Terps. Campus community members should register for the event to receive a free T-shirt to wear for the photo. Afterwards, join us for a picnic on the mall in celebration of our community! Food will be provided.

Register for a T-shirt through April 4, 2025 at 5:00pm. Missed the registration deadline? Come to the event anyways! On the day of the event, unclaimed t-shirts will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis to unregistered participants while supplies last!

This event will be an interactive workshop for folks to deconstruct masculine norms in the U.S., their impact on q***r and non-binary individuals and q***r men, and the importance of positive masculinity and emotional vulnerability.

This Black History Month, join the LGBTQ+ Equity Center for a book talk with Saeed Jones and UMD’s Dr. Will Mosley on Wednesday, February 19th, from 5:00-6:15pm in the Ulrich Theater in Tawes Hall. Jones is a Black q***r author whose award winning memoir, How We Fight for Our Lives, is a coming of age story that centers a young Black man who navigates growing up in the Southern United States.

Q***r Recess is back! This semester, the LGBTQ+ Equity Center is piloting a new structure for our weekly Q***r Recess events! Join us every day, Monday through Friday, from 12:00-2:00pm in 2218 Marie Mount Hall for a variety of themed programs. Every day will feature a new and different theme!

Our first week back, January 27th-31st, will feature the following events:

- Monday, Jan 27th: Campus Partner Visit
Meet our ResLife liaison and get help with your ResLife-related needs!

- Tuesday, Jan 28th: Cozy Gaming
Join us for a cozy gaming session! Bring your own game or chill and watch others.

The LGBTQ+ Equity Center is excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for the Dr. Luke S. Jensen Endowed Scholarship for the LGBTQ+ Equity Center. The Jensen scholarship was established by it’s namesake - and Equity Center founding director, Dr. Luke Jensen - and is awarded to graduate and undergraduate students who demonstrate a commitment to the empowerment of LGBTQ+ people and communities at the University of Maryland and beyond. The LGBTQ+ Equity Center alongside a committee of faculty and staff from across campus will select several recipients to receive a $1,500 scholarship for the Spring 2025 semester. Interested students are highly encouraged to apply. The application will close on October 31, 2024.

Students should visit UMD’s ScholarshipUniverse today to learn about eligibility for the Jensen scholarship and other scholarships for which they might qualify. Questions about the Dr. Luke S. Jensen scholarship can be sent to Dr. Kristopher Oliveira at [email protected].

Join the LGBTQ+ Equity Center and BikeUMD for a beginner-friendly group ride in honor of National Coming Out Day! This event is open to anyone, and both loaner bikes and helmets will be provided to those who need them.

The ride will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 10:00am-1:00pm. We will meet in front of Regents Drive Garage at 10:00am and depart at 10:15am. The group will bike through the engineering quad, Paint Branch Trail, and the Trolley Trail to Vigilante Coffee in Hyattsville. Here, we will get coffee and snacks, and then bike the same route back to campus.

This is a no-drop ride, meaning that we will stick together and travel at a conversational pace. A map of the route will be sent to all participants prior to the ride. All wheels are welcome!
