Hi guys! The Asian American Student Union and a couple other orgs are hosting a panel THIS FRIDAY on how militarism has promoted human rights abuses in the Philippines and in other parts of the world, and how the STEM companies who provide arms for these abuses should be held accountable. Come out to learn more about the issue and show solidarity with our Asian American community ✊✊

Please fill out the interest form if you plan on coming (although it's not necessary)! Link in bio :)

Get hyped—we are holding our first Civil Empowerment Seminar of the year THIS WEDNESDAY!! Dr. Khalid Kadir—a distinguished professor from UC Berkeley—will speak this Wednesday, October 19th from 12-1pm in the Clark Hall forum and we'll have a student workshop from 1-2pm where you can ask him questions and discuss with other students. He'll be speaking on how we can better implement engineering practice by taking into account historical, social, and political systems. For context, his research focuses on the complex role that engineering expertise plays in the politics of international development and poverty alleviation (if you’re in .umd you should definitely come!!). Please RSVP through our bio so we know how much food to get for everyone (did I mention free lunch?), but feel free to come without RSVP or let your friends tag along.

These seminars are a really great supplement to your technical engineering courses, as they open your eyes to a lot of the socioeconomic factors that should be considered in civil engineering. I think you guys are going to really love the seminar - I know I will!
