A reminder that all minyanim will be outdoors and taking place behind Domain or in the AFB/Afbaby area. We tried to estimate how many minyanim would be needed based on previous weeks, but we won't actually know how many are needed until people sign up. If minyanim fill up, we will add more, and if there are not enough people for a minyan, we will combine them. Please pay attention to announcements on Friday to know final minyan locations and times. Thank you for your flexibility.

Hi Everyone!
Some important info about Shabbat minyan. Please read the whole post!

1) Minyan signups are REQUIRED

2) Please sign up for Lot O Minyan

3) No gathering/"awkward hour" after minyan

First, a reminder that minyan attendance is by signup only. University policy dictates that we require signups, and sign-ups allow us to ensure we have enough minyanim to accommodate everyone. We do not want to take attendance or ask people who didn’t sign up to leave, so we ask that you please sign up and encourage your friends to sign up too.

Second, Minyan capacity is set in each location according to university policy. We are allowed maximum 65 people at each minyan and no more than that. There have been multiple occasions in the past few weeks where there have been more than 100 people at the minyan at Mowatt. Please help us out with these numbers. Even if you live closer to Mowatt, if you could sign up to daven in Lot O, that would be really helpful. For anyone who doesn’t know, Lot O is between the business school and the architecture building (less than a 2 minute walk from Mowatt), directly across from Domain. If too many people come to Mowatt this week, we will stop davening to ask people to move to Lot O.
We guarantee you will have a minyan to attend. We monitor the signups to see if minyanim are approaching capacity. As has been the case thus far, should enough people sign up, we will add another minyan. However, we cannot do so without an honest count of minyan attendees.

Lastly, a reminder that gathering after minyan is NOT allowed. Please leave the premises right after davening is over.

Thank you all for your help to ensure that minyan can be a safe and meaningful experience for all of us. We will be sending out signups for Shabbat minyan shortly.

Dear community:

After an incredible and inspiring Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot, our holiday season now culminates with Shmini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.

We are aware of how exciting and enjoyable Simchat Torah can be on campus. Although it might look quite different this year, there are still ways to bring the same ruach and excitement to Simchat Torah 5781. After consultation with our medical advisor and local synagogues, we cannot allow dancing with contact or in close proximity (even with masks) and extensive singing this year. However, we are planning to hold smaller-sized, shortened hakafot at the locations you signed up for.

That being said, we would like to reiterate some important safety rules going forward:

-Masks must be worn at all times, including when approaching and departing from minyan. If someone is not wearing a mask at minyan, the gabbai/gabbait will stop davening until everyone is wearing a mask.
-Social distancing of 6 feet must always be observed when possible, even amongst roommates and members of your “pod”
-Pre- & post-davening crowding and “awkward hours” are not allowed. Please disperse from the davening location immediately after tefillah.
-You cannot attend minyan if you do not sign up. Sign ups enable us to limit capacity safely for each minyan, and allow us to prepare the appropriate number of chazanim, leiners, and locations in advance. If you know someone who is interested in signing up for minyan, do a mitzvah and send them the sign up link.

We thank you for your participation and cooperation during this incredible holiday season, and are looking forward to another wonderful experience.

As always, please feel free to contact any of us with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Chag Sameach!

Daniella Bloch (Gabbait)
Ryan Sweren (Gabbai Sheni)

*UPDATED ROSH HASHANA MINYAN INFORMATION*

Dear Community, בס”ד

We are very excited to finally come together as a community this weekend for Rosh Hashana minyanim. Your safety is our utmost priority. In order to ensure minyan runs safely and smoothly, please read the following announcement in its entirety:

Health Guidelines for Minyan:
-Masks must be worn AT ALL TIMES. Please put it on before approaching your minyan location and leave it on while leaving the premises.
-Each individual must maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from other daveners at all times. Because we will be outdoors (weather-permitting), we cannot draw markings. Therefore, we are relying on you to use proper judgement.
-You MUST attend the minyan to which you are assigned. Minyan assignments will be sent out shortly. Switching minyanim is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
-You may NOT gather/socialize before or after minyan. Clustered groups increase the chances of viral spread and are a chillul Hashem.
-Anyone who tests positive is PROHIBITED from attending minyan! If you have been exposed and have not received a negative test, you may not attend minyan.
-Following the protocol set forth by our Medical Advisor, if you are the roommate or boyfriend/girlfriend of someone who has tested positive, even if you have received a negative test, you may NOT attend minyan. Please contact Rabbi Ari Israel ([email protected]) if you have any questions about this.

Please note:
-All Shacharit minyanim will begin with nishmat. Please be sure to daven pesukei d’zimrah on your own before minyan begins.
-Maariv on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights will take place after shkiya but before tzais. That said, please keep in mind:
---One should wait to recite kiddush until after tzais Friday night. (7:49pm)
---One may not prepare for the second day or recite kiddush before tzais Saturday night (7:48pm)
---One may not do any melacha before tzais Sunday night. (7:46pm)
-Chairs will not be provided. Feel free to bring your own chair to your assigned minyan.
-Machzorim will not be provided. Please bring your own if you have. If you need one from Hillel, you are able to rent one by venmoing a deposit (full deposit will be returned when you return the Machzor). Follow this link to do so: https://marylandhillel.org/jewish-experience/high-holidays/machzor-rental/
-Tefillah’s duration will be significantly limited. Please pay attention to page number announcements, as we will be moving at a quicker pace than usual for Yomim Noraim davening. We expect Shacharit to begin at 9:30AM and for Mussaf to finish at 11:45AM.
-Make sure to dress warmly in layers for the first part of tefillah in the morning.
-Since we are outside, bathrooms will not be easily accessible, so please plan accordingly.
-Kohanim should bring a water bottle to self-wash in advance of Birkat Kohanim.
-We recommend bringing a small towel/paper towels for bowing during Aleinu.
-Minyan location assignments will be sent out shortly. Please let one of us know if you will not be attending any of the minyanim you signed up for.

Thank you all for your cooperation during these difficult times. We are working tirelessly to ensure everyone has a safe and meaningful Yomim Noraim experience. Shana tova!
