Public Health Beyond Borders UMD

Public Health Beyond Borders UMD Public Health Beyond Borders (PHBB) is a new and growing organization started at UMD as a partner organization to Engineers without Borders on campus.

Public Health Beyond Borders is a globally minded group of students aiming to foster a universal community by educating and serving underrepresented countries. As a social organization, our foundations are in the School of Public Health and we collaborate with UMD’s chapter of Engineers Without Borders to create public health interventions alongside their projects to further the well-being of the

community and sustainability of the engineering project. Through our education projects we hope to reduce health disparities all around the world and to increase awareness about good health.

Meet Crystal, one of the people who’s led PHBB from the ground up. 🌍

Crystal served as President of PHBB’s Temple University chapter for three years, developing programs to meet the needs of communities both locally and abroad. She led a trip to Peru that tackled water access and quality, hygiene, nutrition, and menstrual health, turning public health education into real, hands-on impact.

Today, Crystal is a Temple University graduate and OBGYN Medical Assistant at Geisinger, continuing her passion for women’s health in a clinical setting. But her time with PHBB shaped the path that got her there.

Meet Nicole, one of the people leading PHBB’s mission forward. 🌍

Nicole first got involved with PHBB as President of our Daystar University chapter, leading a team of public health student enthusiasts working to make a difference through innovation and hands-on project work. A biomedical sciences graduate, she’s spent her career turning big goals into real, organized action and that’s exactly what she brings to PHBB today as a member of our board.
From chapter leadership to the board, her commitment to this mission has only grown.

Meet Manasvinee, one of the people who started it all. 🌍

Back when she was an undergrad, Manasvinee co-founded Public Health Beyond Borders because she believed health equity shouldn’t stop at a border. Since then she’s held many roles in this org and PHBB has grown into a global community of students tackling real health needs in partner communities.

Today, she’s a PhD student. But she says PHBB is still part of who she is.

This is episode 1 of “Why I Support PHBB”, a new series where our board shares why they joined, what this organization means to them, and why they keep showing up. New episode every week. 🎥

This role is perfect for an undergraduate student passionate about public health, nonprofit operations, and making a tangible difference at an early-stage, entirely volunteer-run organization.

You’ll rotate through our Development and Communications teams, gaining hands-on experience in grant writing, social media strategy, and email marketing with a $250 stipend included.
