Shortcake’s journey has taken her from the Texas A&M equine herd to the classroom and competition arena. Raised and trained by animal science students, she now teaches in ANSC 221 and competes with the Texas A&M Ranch Horse Team.

Meet Owen Sanders ’27, president of Saddle & Sirloin Club.

Owen joined the club as a freshman because of his interest in animal agriculture and the community his father and grandfather described from their own time as presidents. As he became more involved, he saw ways the club could grow. Now, he’s working to build an organization Animal Science students can take pride in and look forward to joining.

That community takes shape through the club’s support of departmental judging teams, agricultural education and community service, along with socials and events like the Children’s Barnyard. Saddle & Sirloin’s next general meeting is Nov. 4. Students interested in joining can email [email protected].

Dr. Fuller Bazer spent 58 years shaping how the world understands livestock reproduction.

A longtime faculty member in Texas A&M’s Department of Animal Science, Dr. Bazer uncovered biological signals in livestock, including interferon tau in ruminants, estradiol in swine and uteroferrin’s role in supporting a developing embryo. His discoveries changed how producers manage fertility and set new standards for reproductive research.

We are grateful for Dr. Bazer’s remarkable career and the lasting impact of his work.

Reserve champion overall for the Aggies at the APHA Horse IQ Judging Contest! The team also won the halter and reasons divisions and earned high individual honors in every category. We’re proud of how they represented Texas A&M in Fort Worth!

A strong showing for the Aggies at the State Fair of Texas! The Livestock Judging Team brought home the overall title and earned multiple top-10 individual finishes. We’re proud of this team and are excited to follow the rest of their season!

The AGGIES had an INCREDIBLE day back in the home state at the State Fair of Texas! We are so proud of the team and we are excited to watch them continue through their Fall run!

Celebrating 20 years of the Texas A&M Ranch Horse Team!

Current team members, former teammates, faculty, family and friends came together this past weekend to celebrate the riders, horses and hard work behind two decades of Ranch Horse at Texas A&M. It was a chance for former teammates to reconnect and for current riders to celebrate the people who helped build the team.

We’re excited to keep supporting the Ranch Horse Team and see the next generation of Aggies take their place in the arena.
