Last week, Dr. Nicole L. Key, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University Mechanical Engineering delivered our Turbomachinery Distinguished Lecture Series at the J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Key's lecture, "High-Speed Compressor Experiments - The Magic in the Minutiae," covered the importance of high-speed turbomachinery experiments in engine-development because they provide the important mid-TRL validation of new technologies.

The Mechanical Engineering Industry Advisory Council (IAC) joined department head Dr. Guillermo Aguilar for its fall meeting to hear department updates and discuss priorities for the future. Composed of former students in industry leadership roles, the council brings a broad range of professional perspectives to help shape the department’s direction.

Discussions focused on strengthening the IAC’s strategic contributions, including evaluating departmental goals and curriculum updates, connecting students with industry opportunities, expanding capstone sponsorships and supporting career mentoring.

The council also supports faculty and student success through the Mechanical Engineering Advancement Fund and Industry Advisory Council Fund, which provide resources for faculty fellowships and undergraduate scholarships. The MEEN IAC Scholarship Award extends that impact through matching commitments from alumni donors, including Tom Bundy ’78 and Craig Clark ’79, helping make scholarship support available to mechanical engineering students.

Join us in congratulating mechanical engineering faculty member, Dr. Heng Pan, who has been selected as an American Society Of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Fellow for his outstanding engineering achievements!

Dr. Pan is an associate professor and his research areas include additive manufacturing, dry electrode manufacturing, laser based micro/nano-manufacturing, multi-material and multi-function integration, laser-material interactions, and transport phenomena in manufacturing.
