Aggie Green Fund

This fee will generate approximately $300,000 per academic year for sustainability initiatives.

The Aggie Green Fund is a student initiated and student controlled fund that empowers students to take action and bring about novel and creative sustainability initiatives to the Texas A&M University campus. In the spring of 2010, a consortium of student organizations lead the charge to implement a $3.00 per fall or spring semester fee or a $1.50 summer semester fee. The students passed the referendum with 57% supporting the effort.

🚲🌱 By expanding the campus lease bike fleet, this grant will provide students with an affordable and sustainable way to travel on and around campus. As bikes in the lease fleet age, they will be given a second life through the free Borrow a Bike program, reducing waste while continuing to serve the campus community. Adding new bikes will help maintain the program’s goal of leasing 100 bikes each semester while allowing for expansion of both the semester-long lease program and the shorter-term Borrow a Bike program. This project will make sustainable transportation more accessible while keeping more bikes in use for longer. 🚴‍♀️🌎

🌿🪑 By transforming the Memorial Student Center balcony with new furniture made from recycled materials, this grant will create a more sustainable and welcoming outdoor space for the Texas A&M community. Currently used primarily as a pass-through between student services and the MSC ballrooms, the balcony has the potential to become a destination for students to study, relax, reflect, and connect. With views of Kyle Field Plaza and Aggie Park and hundreds of visitors on game days, this upgraded space will encourage greater appreciation of campus green spaces while supporting student wellness and Texas A&M’s sustainability mission. 🌎💚

🏎️⚡🌱 By upgrading tools and equipment used by Texas A&M Formula SAE Electric, this grant will make the design and fabrication of their fully electric racecar more sustainable, efficient, and safe. Each year, 140+ students from engineering, business, and internal operations collaborate to design and build a new formula-style electric racecar from scratch. These upgrades will reduce energy use and material waste, improve fabrication efficiency, and extend the lifespan of components throughout the development process. By investing in more sustainable tools and practices, this grant will help Formula SAE Electric push the boundaries of environmentally conscious racecar engineering while providing students with hands-on experience in innovation and leadership. 🏁🔋🌎

💡🌱 By converting outdated lighting in the Heep Center to energy-efficient LED fixtures, this grant will create a brighter, more welcoming, and more sustainable space for students, faculty, and visitors. Built in the 1970s, the Heep Center predates modern energy standards, making its existing lighting inefficient and costly to maintain. This project will reduce electricity use and maintenance costs while improving illumination throughout shared spaces. By upgrading to LEDs, the grant will reduce the building’s environmental footprint and support Texas A&M’s campus sustainability goals, turning the Heep Center into a practical example of Aggie commitment to environmental stewardship. ⚡🌎

By placing bird deterrent markers along the windows of the JCAIN–MEOB Skybridge in accordance with the Bird Friendly Buildings Initiative, this grant will create positive change throughout multiple aspects of the student experience on campus. This Skybridge is a known bird killer; a reported 57 bird deaths occurred between January 2023 - October 2025. In addition to the environmental impacts of bird deaths, finding bird carcasses negatively impact the student experience on campus by making an otherwise pleasant stretch of campus unappealing as well as posing a potential health hazard. These new markers make it easier for birds to see the glass and avoid it. ⚠️🪿🌱
