Next up on our Summer Student Spotlight is Mason Gubser!

This summer, Mason worked as a drilling intern for Oxy!

"I spent the summer working in the Midland Basin Unit where I completed a case study evaluating the value of Oxy's first-ever Midland Basin U-turn wells could bring to the asset," Mason said. "This experience was especially meaningful because of the amount of time I spent on the rig. Being in the field gave me a strong operational foundation and directly supported the technical work behind my project."

This fall, Mason will be a senior and plans to graduate in December.

"Upon graduating, I am hoping to enter any kind of drilling or production role. I hope to enter the workforce in a field position that way I can build the strongest background I can for myself early on in my career."

Congratulations, Mason! πŸ‘

Next up on our Summer Student Spotlight is Edward Millard!

This summer, Edward worked as an Investment Banking Engineering Analyst at TPH&Co!

"This summer, I worked on oil and gas upstream and midstream M&A deals in the Lower 48 basins and gained exposure to reservoir engineering, geology and finance," said Edward.

This fall, Edward will be a senior and plans to graduate in May '27.

"Post graduation, I hope to work as an engineering analyst with TPH&Co. I believe this is the ideal path to build upon my engineering foundation by working at the intersection of technical and financial analysis," he said.

Congratulations, Edward! πŸ‘

Our next Summer Student Spotlight is Jacob Tarter!

This summer, Jacob is working as a Reservoir Engineer on the Bakken Assets Team at Chevron!

"In this role, I have been helping optimize completion designs for future development. My work this summer has relied heavily on numerical rate transient analysis (RTA), statistical modeling and economic evaluation," said Jacob.

This fall, Jacob will be a senior and is graduating in December.

"After I graduate, I am hoping to use my degree to continue providing valuable recommendations to the oil and gas industry through refined subsurface knowledge focused on the valuation of assets and project identification with the support of my PVP certification," he said.

Congratulations, Jacob! πŸ‘

Congratulations to Dr. Rita Esuru Okoroafor who has been selected as a member of the Global Young Academy, an initiative that develops, connects and mobilizes early career scientists from six continents. Their mission is to give a voice to young scientists, empowering them to lead international, interdisciplinary and intergenerational dialogue and contribute to societal challenges.

During her inauguration, Dr. Okoroafor participated in the Falling Walls Lab Competition and took first place! This means she will participate in the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin in late 2026.

Congratulations, Dr. Okoroafor!

Next up for our Summer Student Spotlight is senior Kaden Spilman!

This summer, Kaden is working as a Wells Engineering Intern at ExxonMobil.

"This summer, I’ve been working on drilling mechanics projects focused on analyzing drilling performance and downhole vibrations to help improve drilling efficiency and reduce operational risk. The experience has allowed me to apply concepts from the classroom while working alongside and learning from experienced engineers at ExxonMobil. As I enter my final semester at Texas A&M, I’m excited to continue expanding my knowledge of petroleum engineering and finance through my PETE coursework and the Petroleum Ventures Program," Kaden said.

Way to go, Kaden!

All it took was four-and-a-half years of engineering, six students and a collective desire to pay it forward to help the next generation of Aggie petroleum engineers create a story of unexpected generosity.

While many students wait until they are professionally β€” and financially β€” established to give back to their alma mater, newly graduated Ava Blackburn, Cecilia Orta, Whitten Bowles, Jackson Cook, Hondo Goebel and Cannon Pierce are getting a head start. Before even crossing the stage, the six Aggies organized a scholarship in the College of Engineering.
