The 2026 Fightin’ Texas Aggie Meat Judging Team had a great summer grading trip!

The team got back in the swing of things at Tyson Amarillo and Cargill Friona, where they toured the facility and gained valuable insight to the industry. They also took some time to enjoy a Panhandle sunset at Palo Duro Canyon.

A special thank you to the Hinds and Detten families for hosting the team for dinner and supporting our students.

As you see this team traveling throughout the year, you’ll notice a new stickers on their hard hats. At every contest, practice, and trip, we’ll be honoring our teammate Avery Detten as we continue to Love Like Avery.

Best of luck to these Aggies as they start a new school year. We’re excited for what’s ahead!

Over the past three days, campers immersed themselves in the fundamentals of meat judging while experiencing what it means to be an Aggie. From learning beef, pork, and lamb evaluation, retail identification, and grading, to touring Kyle Field, participating in Aggie traditions, and making new friendships, it was a week full of learning, competition, and unforgettable memories.

Camp concluded with our annual meat judging contest, giving campers the opportunity to put everything they learned throughout the week to the test. It was exciting to watch their confidence and skills grow from day one to the final contest.

A huge thank you to our Texas A&M Meat Judging Team for sharing their time, knowledge, and passion with the next generation of meat judgers. We also want to thank the faculty and staff in the Department of Animal Science for helping make this camp a tremendous success.

Congratulations to all of our contest winners, and thank you to Creative Awards & Trophies for providing the outstanding awards for this year’s camp!

We can’t wait to watch these campers compete this judging season and look forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2027 Fightin’ Texas Aggie Meat Judging Camp!

Day 2 of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Meat Judging Camp was one to remember!

We kicked off the morning with a behind-the-scenes tour of the iconic Kyle Field before campers headed to the Rosenthal Meat Science & Technology Center to sharpen their skills in beef and lamb evaluation. Throughout the day, students continued building their knowledge, confidence, and judging abilities.

We also recognized another Camper of the Day from each group for their outstanding attitude, effort, and leadership. To wrap up an awesome day, everyone enjoyed an evening of games, laughs, and time spent getting to know fellow campers and counselors.

We’re excited for one more day of learning and competition. Gig ’em! 👍🐂

Day 1 of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Meat Judging Camp is in the books! 👍🥩

Today, our 4-H and FFA students built a strong foundation in meat evaluation by learning about pork evaluation, retail identification, beef grading, and oral reasons. It was a full day of hands-on learning, questions, and skill development as campers worked alongside our coaches, staff, and team members.

Each camp group also recognized a Camper of the Day, an honor given to a student who demonstrated a great attitude, strong work ethic, and enthusiasm throughout the day. Congratulations to all of today’s recipients!

We wrapped up the day the Aggie way with a spirited Fightin’ Texas Aggie Yell Practice and the Aggie War Hymn, giving our campers a taste of the traditions that make Texas A&M so special.

We’re excited for another great day of learning tomorrow. Gig ’em! 👍
