Established by the Texas State Legislature in 1983 at Texas A&M University, the Public Policy Research Institute (PPRI) serves as a leading interdisciplinary government and social policy research organization. Since inception, PPRI has secured external research contracts totaling $140 million for

providing scientific research and evaluative services to more than 90 public and private sponsors engaged in formulating public policy. Social problems related to the areas of government, education, public health, substance abuse, workforce and employment, aging, and child and family well-being provide the substantive focus of PPRI’s work. Through the application of sophisticated research methods, PPRI successfully designs scientific projects that predict and evaluate the effectiveness of local, state, regional, national, and international programs and initiatives. Survey Research Lab - PPRI provides technical and research capabilities for all types of surveys. As an interdisciplinary unit at Texas A&M University, PPRI can assemble teams of researchers experienced in survey research methodology as well as specialized subject matter. The research group at PPRI has extensive experience in designing and conducting studies to answer research questions using a variety of survey data collection methods. In addition to telephone surveys, we have conducted field surveys of diverse populations in private homes, prisons, hospitals, and other locations.

Meet one of the true powerhouses behind research in action at PPRI, Dr. Nandita Chaudhuri! 💼✨ With more than 25 years of interdisciplinary experience, Dr. Chaudhuri has led evaluations across public health, workforce, and higher education that have improved lives across Texas and beyond. Her international background, spanning India, Canada, and the U.S., gives her research a global perspective with real world impact.

As Principal Investigator on 40+ major externally funded projects, supported by agencies like National Institutes of Health (NIH) , National Science Foundation (NSF) , CDC , Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Administration for Community Living, and Texas Health and Human Services Commission, she has a remarkable track record of turning evidence into action.

For more than 40 years, Dr. Carmichael has played a key role in advancing evidence‑based policy research at the Texas A&M University's Public Policy Research Institute. As Director, Research Scientist, and Principal Investigator, she helps uphold the Aggie commitment to service, integrity, and creating positive impact for communities across Texas and beyond. 📊

🗣 What’s one thing she wishes more people understood about her work? “Being a good policy researcher is mostly about being a good listener — of the news, and of people with different perspectives — to understand what’s important to measure, what’s really driving outcomes, and to tell an honest story backed by evidence and data.” Dr. Carmichael stated.
