What happens when public health leaves the classroom and heads into the national parks?

Eight public health students explored public health in a unique and hands-on way through the experiential learning course Public Health in the Park, led by Dr. Jennifer Griffith and Dr. Jay Maddock.

Through interviews, discussions and documentary filmmaking, students engaged with the U.S. Public Health Service and the National Park Service during a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park! They gained real-world insight into public health beyond the classroom.

Mental health support should reach every community 💚

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we are proud to highlight the work of researchers at the Texas A&M School of Public Health who are helping strengthen mental health resources in rural Texas communities.

A team led by Heather Clark, DrPH, and Sara Mendez, DrPH, recently received $2 million from the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health to support mental health and well-being initiatives in 10 rural and rural border counties across Texas.
By working directly with community members, the team will help residents identify local needs, build resilience and create sustainable solutions that support mental health for years to come.

“Everything we do—from program design to the final report—is largely determined by what the communities tell us they need.” — Dr. Heather Clark

From College Station to Malawi, public health research is making a global impact!

Timothy Erickson, PhD, assistant professor at the Texas A&M School of Public Health, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright U.S. Scholars Award to conduct tropical disease research in Malawi.

He hit the ground running when he arrived in Malawi working to improve low-cost disease diagnosis systems, teaching students, and building international research partnerships focused on saving lives worldwide. His work reflects the global reach of public health research and the importance of international collaboration in addressing emerging infectious diseases.

Congratulations to Dr. Erickson on this outstanding achievement and impactful work. This is public health in action! Read more at https://vitalrecord.tamu.edu/building-bridges-to-east-africa/
