Mays Business School is proud to celebrate Theresa Phinney ‘81 ‘84, a faculty member of the INFO Department - Mays Business School who has dedicated 40 years to teaching and an incredible 45 years of total service to Texas A&M University. She started when most students had never touched a computer, and today she teaches a generation that’s never known life without one.

One thing that’s never changed? The enthusiasm of Mays students, and hers for teaching them.

Demonstrating the Aggie Core Value of selfless service, Devina Rankin ’98, a 2026 recipient of the Mays Business School Outstanding Alumni Award, has continuously dedicated her time to supporting and mentoring others.

Inspired by her family’s history of service, Rankin was drawn to Texas A&M University and its mission to be a force for good. A graduate of the PPA program in the James Benjamin Department of Accounting, her career path led her to WM, where she spent more than 23 years growing from accounting and financial reporting into treasury and ultimately chief financial officer.

Along the way, Rankin became known for her forward-looking and people-focused leadership. Today, Rankin brings that same commitment back to Mays as she teaches the CFOs and Financial Leadership course, giving students a firsthand look at the opportunities that exist beyond the classroom.

From leading through changes to serving through challenges, Rankin’s story reflects the kind of impact Mays hopes to prepare students to make. She embodies the Aggie Spirit at its best, where success is measured not only by what you accomplish, but by how you use it to serve others. Congratulations, Devina! 👍

For Stephanie Murphy ’00 ’14, business leadership has taken an unexpected trajectory. 🚀

Murphy has built a career at the intersection of business, aerospace, and entrepreneurship. As principal owner and CEO of Aegis Aerospace Inc., she leads a space and technology company serving government and commercial clients, including NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Department of Defense, with work that has supported architectural developments on the International Space Station.

A graduate of Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Economics and the Executive MBA program at Mays Business School, Murphy’s story reflects how business education can prepare leaders to navigate complex industries, translate technical ideas into opportunity, and create impact in fields shaping the future.

Her work is a reminder that business can help move innovation forward beyond our atmosphere and back here on Earth. 🌎

“Give them more than what they’re expecting. That, to me, is marketing.”

For Arch “Beaver” Aplin III ’80, that idea helped turn Buc-ee's from a single convenience store into one of the most recognizable brands in the country, with 55 locations across the United States. Now, through his transformative gift toward the Aplin Center at Texas A&M University, that same entrepreneurial spirit will continue to grow and develop at Mays Business School.

The Arch H. Aplin III '80 Department of Marketing and the future Aplin Center, opening in 2028, will carry his philosophy forward by giving Mays students new ways to explore marketing and retail in action. Through hands-on learning opportunities, students will be able to test ideas, make real decisions, and see their work come to life through the customer experience.

For Aplin, this gift is rooted in a desire to give back. For Mays, it represents what is possible when entrepreneurial vision meets bold ideas and a shared belief that great business starts with understanding people and serving them well.

Jamie Duke ’97, a 2026 recipient of the Mays Business School Outstanding Alumni Award, is known by many for her infectious personality and the energy she brings to every room, but she has also defined herself as a strategic leader in the corporate world who creates transformational impacts.

As a student, Duke made the most of her time at Texas A&M University through her involvement in organizations within the Memorial Student Center (MSC). Her dedication, focus, and ability to motivate others led her to serve in several leadership roles, eventually working as executive vice president of programs for the MSC during her senior year, earning her the Buck Weirus Spirit Award and the Thomas H. Rountree Award for leadership and service.

That same drive and spirit has carried into her professional career at Samsung Electronics America, where she created from scratch the department she now runs as director of strategic projects. Those who work with Duke describe her as dependable, positive, and someone every team is better for having. Her commitment to Texas A&M has continued through her service with the Aggie Women Network, the 12th Man Foundation Board of Trustees, and as a Legacy Society member of the Texas A&M Foundation. She and her husband, Mike McClain, also created an Aggie Ring scholarship in honor of her grandparents, who helped make it possible for her to receive her own Aggie Ring.

Chris Work ’90, a 2026 recipient of the Mays Business School Outstanding Alumni Award, is more than familiar with the abilities it takes to make an impact: hard work, humility, and a deep belief in the power of the Aggie Network.

After being recruited to Texas A&M University to play football, Work became the team’s only scholarship accounting major, balancing athletics with the rigor of Mays’ James Benjamin Department of Accounting. Through it all, he stayed committed to his schoolwork, his team, and his future, even turning study nights at the Sterling Evans Library into “date nights” with his now-wife Shannon Work ’90.

That same discipline carried into a career shaped by generosity, tenacity, and a continuous pursuit of learning — qualities he now channels into the way he gives back. Work supports Mays and its students through need-based scholarships, mentorship with the AmplifyU program, and service on the Dean’s Advisory Board.

From the opportunities that shaped his career to his commitment to the next generation, Work and his story are reminders of what makes the Aggie Network so meaningful. 👍
