CC professors make an impact out in the community. Professor Brian Linkhart from our Department of Organismal Biology and Ecology recently helped wildlife professionals in Pueblo with a flammulated owl chick named Ash displaced by the nearby Aspen Acres Fire. Firefighters rescued the chick and brought it to the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center in Pueblo to recover and mature safely. FLAM Crew alums, what was your first flammulated owl experience like?πŸ¦‰

Alumni Spotlight: As VP & chief operating officer of History Colorado, Annie Levinsky ’02 has been hard at work studying, preserving, and showcasing Colorado history and preparing for Colorado's 150th birthday today. πŸ…

The first class she took at CC was a southwest studies course that spanned two blocks. They spent seven weeks focused on the history and culture of the region, including visits to the Baca Campus, acequia irrigation in the San Luis Valley, and historic sites in northern New Mexico. The class helped Levinsky connect her interest in history with her love of Colorado's landscapes and the power of place that shapes our communities, inspiring her career in museums and historic preservation.

Alumni in the news: CC alumni Effie Stroud Frazier '31 and Kelley Dolphus Stroud '31 are featured in a recent news article! tinyurl.com/2wvp5bjh

The siblings excelled academically and were among the first Black students to graduate from Colorado College. Stroud set multiple athletic records and became a local legend for walking and hitchhiking nearly 2,000 miles from Denver to Boston in order to participate in the qualifying race for the 1928 Olympics when he was denied travel funding. Frazier studied education and when she was denied the opportunity to teach, continued forward and became a librarian beloved for her efforts to beatify public spaces in her area. Their legacy continues at CC with the Kelley Dolphus Stroud space in the Ed Robson Arena and the Stroud Scholarship Program which prepares high school students for college over the course of three years.

Kelley Dolphus Stroud's effort to compete in the 1928 Olympic trials in Boston has become part of Colorado lore.
