Throwback Thursday to the Ivalas String Quartet's visit to the Colorado College Music Department. Students in Dr. Chang’s Listening to Music course and Dr. Tomi-Ann Roberts’ Aesthetics of Psychology class were treated to an informal concert and discussion with the quartet to help them further explore what makes a musical experience emotionally rewarding.

Organized in partnership with EPIC (Educational Partnerships Immersive Concerts), with additional support for the course convergence provided by Chris and Larry Jones, the students were then invited to attend EPIC's presentation of the Ivalas' String Quartet at the ENT Center, generously supported by Karen Mosbacher.

Since its founding in 2017, the Ivalas Quartet has earned national recognition for expanding the classical canon by spotlighting underrepresented composers alongside traditional repertoire. They'll be back at the ENT Center on February 26th with EPIC's Sergei Vassiliev to perform the Brahms Clarinet Quintet.

What happens when a Colorado College music professor discovers correspondence in the College Archives about a mysterious 16th century lute replica?

A research paper is born!

In June, Professor Lidia Chang presented "Dolmetsch in the Rockies: The Story of a Lute in the American West"
at the Sound Stories conference on musical instruments at Northumbria University.

Don't miss Dr. Chang's presentation at the Block 5 Faculty Lunch series on how the Dolmetsch lute found its way from England into a display case at Colorado College's Seay Library of Music and Art.

Spotlight on Visiting Instructor EVER REYES. Ever’s research and teaching focuses on the intersections between music, social movements, and Indigenous self-determination. Last year, under his guidance, students at Colorado College:
*Conducted archival research
*Completed oral history interviews
*Analyzed how music can shape social change
*Created their own podcasts and music

We are so grateful he is back to teach six block classes this year, including the ever-popular Sonic Revolutions (Block 5), Indigenous Hip-Hop (Block 8), Music in Manitou (Block 4), and Digital Music Production (Block 6). He’ll also be teaching Songwriting (Block 1) and Listening to Music (Block 2).

Come to the Music Department and you might just see Ever wearing his favorite blue “Ethnomusicologist” hat!
