Join Cafe Scientifique for “The Truth About Wolves,” featuring Becca Sue, ecologist and educator with ColoradoWild.

This free event explores the science behind wolves, their role in healthy ecosystems and the challenges surrounding coexistence in Colorado. Becca will also discuss what is currently happening with Colorado’s wolves and answer common questions about these often misunderstood animals.

Join historian and bestselling author Kristin Du Mez for a special book launch event at UCCS as she discusses her new book, Live Laugh Love: The Secret History of White Christian Women and the World They Made.

Du Mez, author of Jesus and John Wayne, explores the ways religion, consumer culture, gender and ideas of empowerment have shaped the lives of white Christian women in America.

The event will take place Tuesday, September 15 at the Ent Center for the Arts, Shockley-Zalabak Theater. A book signing begins at 4:45 p.m., followed by the book launch event at 6:00 p.m.

The event is free to attend, but a ticket is required. The first 75 attendees in line will receive a free copy of the book, with additional copies available for purchase.

Welcome back to UCCS with an outdoor screening of the 1978 classic Superman at the Heller Center for Arts & Humanities!

ChatGPT Edu is now available to UCCS students!

All enrolled full-time and part-time UCCS students now have access to CU’s institutionally managed version of ChatGPT Edu at no additional cost. The platform provides generative AI tools designed to support research, analysis, brainstorming and other academic work within CU’s data privacy and security framework.

Before accessing ChatGPT Edu, students must complete the AI Literacy at UCCS course through Canvas. The course introduces responsible AI use, ethical considerations, data privacy and practical ways to use AI effectively.

Remember that AI policies may vary by course, so students should always check with their professor before using AI for academic work.

From Cortez to UCCS—and back home for a world premiere.

Jadon Cruzan, a UCCS VAPA Music Program alum and 2021 graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School, is returning to his hometown this month to conduct the world premiere of his new work, Cortez Overture, written in celebration of the city’s 140th anniversary.

The piece is especially personal for Cruzan, who built the overture around the very first melody he ever composed as a student in Cortez. Years later, after studying composition at UCCS, he transformed that early idea into a full concert work featuring Native American flute influences, Wild West-inspired rhythms and patriotic harmonies.

Performed by the Four Corners Community Band, the premiere marks both a homecoming and a reflection of Cruzan’s growth as a composer. The free anniversary concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, at the Cortez Cultural Center.

Joseph Kuzma, a teaching professor of philosophy in the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences, is exploring that question through Radical Pause: The UCCS Stillness Project, an initiative developed through the C3 Innovation Fellowship in the Kraemer Family Library.

In a culture shaped by constant notifications, productivity and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, Radical Pause invites participants to step away from the pressure to perform and rediscover the value of stillness, contemplation and genuine human connection.

The College of Letters, Arts and Sciences loved meeting so many incoming students and their families, sharing more about our programs and introducing the LAS Peak Ambassador Program. It was exciting to see new Mountain Lions exploring campus, connecting with the UCCS community and beginning to feel at home.

There is still one more opportunity to attend! The final New Student Welcome Bash will be held Friday, August 7, from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Experience nature reimagined through technology in "Simulacra (or, The Persistence of Nature in an Age of Mediation)".

Featuring work by Dornith Doherty, Etsuko Ichikawa and Bill Viola, this exhibition explores how the natural world endures as our experiences become increasingly shaped by technology and threatened by ecological collapse. From fractured mountain projections and luminous fields to seed archives animated with the possibility of renewal, the works invite viewers to consider mediation not only as a barrier—but also as a space where attention, memory and care can take root.
