Scarlett Jones (BA in English, 2026) spent the Spring 2026 semester as an intern in Special Collections, where for her final project she curated this digital exhibit. In this exhibit, Scarlett researched the University of Missouri Library’s vast collection of comic arts to explore how comics, as a popular means of mass media, served as a way to promote the war effort to American audiences wary of explicit propaganda efforts.

Mizzou Libraries recently had the opportunity to share one of its rare books with a national audience through a major museum exhibition in Chicago. This collaboration began when Cesáreo Moreno, curator at the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA), reached out about borrowing Mizzou’s copy of La portentosa vida de la muerte (1792) by Fray Joaquín Bolaños. Published in Mexico City, the book it is now on display in Images of Faith: 3000 Years of Spiritual Expressions in Mexico, an expansive exhibition exploring centuries of religious and spiritual expression in Mexican culture.

Heba Abd El Salam has been appointed as the Languages, Literatures and Digital Humanities Librarian. Her work combines librarianship, public history and anthropology, focusing on cultural heritage, migration and community-engaged scholarship. he Geology Library is a US Geological Survey Depository, full of specialized resources, books, and documents for students studying geology or any similar fields. The library also houses Mizzou’s extensive collection of topographic, geological, and thematic maps. These maps, which are both digital and physical, cover the entire world, providing a perfect resource for many students. The collection also contains significant materials on the history of earth sciences.

Librarians like to say that an hour in the library is worth a month in the laboratory, quips Kristin Briney, biology and biological engineering librarian at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, California.
