Earlier this week, formally bestowed its highest teaching honor, the Kemper Award, to Assistant Teaching Professor, Eric Aldrich. Aldrich, an SNR alum, teaches Synoptic Meteorology I & II, the Broadcast Meteorology sequence, our Introductory course, and several others.

Sonja Wilhelm Stanis pictured with Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Matthew Martens, was the recipient of the Provost’s Award for University Citizenship in Mentoring. In the spirit of the Citizenship/Mentoring award, a colleague said she could “state without reservation that her mentorship has had a meaningful and lasting impact on both individual faculty members and the broader academic culture within PRST and the School of Natural Resources.”

After a semester of collaboration with the Missouri Department of Conservation, students in the Natural Resource Planning and Management Capstone course gained valuable real-world, applied learning experience as they developed a comprehensive habitat management plan for Hinkson Woods Conservation Area. Working directly with MDC, students translated classroom knowledge into practical solutions. They presented their final work through a written report, oral presentation, and research posters to MDC's Community Conservation Planner, Danielle Fox.

Researchers at the University of Missouri and the University of Toledo, provide some of the strongest experimental evidence to date that invasive goldfish can fundamentally alter lake ecosystems. The findings underscore a growing concern among ecologists. As one of the co-researchers from the University of Missouri, Rick Relyea, Professor in the School of Natural Resources and Director of Mizzou’s Johnny Morris Institute of Fisheries, Wetlands and Aquatic Systems said “While goldfish make great pets in our homes, they can cause major harm if released into our lakes.”

Congratulations to Skylar Ciccolini, a graduate of both Natural Resource Science and Management and a master in Natural Resources, who is the first-student athlete in Mizzou history to receive the NCAA Walter Byers Graduate Scholarship! This award is the NCAA's highest academic honor and is given to a student-athlete who demonstrates academic and athletic excellence and potential as a future leader.
She plans to use this scholarship towards doctoral work still within SNR.
