Department of Physics & Astronomy, University of South Carolina Welcome to the Department of Physics & Astronomy at The University of South Carolina!

Our department was established in the mid-fifties, awarding its first MS degree in 1958 and first PhD degree in 1965. Since then, we have grown into a strong and vibrant department with an internationally recognized faculty, vigorously pursuing world-class research. Our ties to several national and international laboratories and physics-related industries, as well as our interdisciplinary efforts

provide students with access to cutting-edge research in almost all areas of contemporary physics. We encourage fans, followers and friends to share thoughts with one another by commenting on stories, videos, links, posts, etc. within the following guidelines:
• Comments must be relevant to a topic discussed and to the point.
• Comments should be constructive and absent of expletives, obscenity and vulgarity.

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Enrique Lopez Rodriguez for another publication in the Astrophysical Journal Letters! 👏🔥

In this work, Dr. Lopez Rodriguez and his team report the first detection of a magnetized outflow in a merger galaxy using molecular CO emission-line polarization. B-fields are the main drivers of transporting metals, cosmic rays, and dust into the circumgalactic medium.

For more details, check out the story on NRAO, where you can also find the link to the paper: https://public.nrao.edu/news/magnetic-superhighways-discovered-in-a-starburst-galaxys-winds/
