This weekend, TRIO SSS explored Beaufort, South Carolina!

We began the trip with a visit to the University of South Carolina Beaufort, where students learned about the opportunities available to future transfer students.

The adventure continued with a scenic boat tour through a salt marsh, where students learned about the area's unique ecosystem and coastal wildlife. We even got to see a pod of dolphins! We also enjoyed a guided bus tour through historic Beaufort, discovering the city's rich history, charming architecture, and cultural significance.

One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the Penn Center, where students learned about Beaufort's important role in Black history and gained a deeper appreciation for the rich traditions, resilience, and heritage of the Gullah Geechee people.

Experiences like these help our students connect classroom learning with real-world history, culture, and future educational opportunities.

Congratulations to SSS student Markia Miller! Today, she and SSS Coordinator Taylor visited Columbia College to explore everything the campus has to offer. Markia enjoyed learning about the college's academic programs, student life, and the many opportunities available to future students. The highlight of the day? She was accepted to Columbia College!

Yesterday we had a blast at the annual Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day with this year’s western theme! We also shared one last lunch with one of our coordinators, Vicky Graves, as she prepares for retirement. Vicky, you will truly be missed, but we are so excited for this new chapter in your life. Earlier this month, two of our SSS Scholars, Deshanell Madison and Asharee Knapper (Bottom row, middle), proudly represented Midlands Technical College at Higher Education Day at the South Carolina State House.

They had the opportunity to hear from legislators, tour the State House, and connect with student leaders from colleges and universities across South Carolina.
