Geek Week is back!

From Monday, Oct. 26, to Friday, Oct. 30, the Honors College Student Council is bringing a Halloween twist to a week of activities, including trivia, Bob Ross-themed painting, a murder mystery and more. Students can also give back by making tie blankets for charity and volunteering at the Central Missouri Humane Society.

Morgan Williams found unique opportunities to put her storytelling skills into practice throughout her time at Mizzou. Williams, who earned a journalism degree and completed the Honors Certificate in 2024, worked as a photographer and content creator for Truman the Tiger and Mizzou Cheer. She also turned an Honors College documentary class into a four-semester project that took her beyond Columbia and gave her hands-on experience researching, interviewing and filming.

“It just goes to show how impressive and how important the Missouri Method is,” Williams said. “The experiences that I got through the Missouri School of Journalism and the experiences that I got through filming this documentary with Professor (Bill) Horner, I really can’t imagine having that at any other school.”

We were thrilled to celebrate Honors College faculty from across campus earlier this week during our inaugural faculty luncheon! The event brought together faculty from a variety of disciplines who support Honors students in numerous ways.

We were thrilled to welcome Adrienne Bain this week as part of our Honors Alumni Conversation Series! Bain earned degrees in journalism (Missouri School of Journalism) and textile and apparel management (Mizzou Textile and Apparel Management) and was actively involved in the Honors College, where she earned the Honors Certificate. Bain currently serves as managing director of capital markets with JPI and is a founding principal of B Squared Group.

Over two days, Bain met with Honors College students to share insights from her professional journey, offer career advice and encourage students as they prepare for their own futures.

Forever Faurotcious: Senior Megan Mesikapp has loved Mizzou Homecoming since her freshman year. Now, as one of this year’s tri-directors, she’s helping lead the traditions she’s grown to love – from last week’s record-breaking blood drive to this week’s talent showcase.

For Mesikapp, Homecoming is about more than traditions. It’s about bringing Tigers together and making sure everyone has a place to be part of the celebration.

“I’m a very nostalgic and sentimental person,” said Mesikapp, a journalism major who is also pursuing the Honors College Certificate. “Right now, I’m just trying to soak up every moment. Homecoming is truly my favorite time of the year. If I could go back and relive each of these experiences all over again, I totally would, which is why I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be a tri-director this year. I’m thankful to be able to serve the Mizzou and Columbia communities in this way.”

The Honors College Communication Internship team plays an important role in sharing the Honors story. This year, five students are part of the program, including three who are new to the team.

Meet one of the new students, Joseph Winterbower! As a junior digital storytelling major, Winterbower is learning different ways to tell stories on a screen. He loves film and has been able to explore that interest through Honors courses.
