God always has a way of meeting us exactly where we are. Deuteronomy 31:8 says “it is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed”. There is nothing we can ever do to make him turn his face from us. Rest assured that he is our ever present help!

Unity, loving beyond how you feel, a place where you can be completely yourself. All of these are aspects the culture of family we fight to create here at SCSL. Having this safe place is something that is invaluable and we are so thankful to have that here.

Tell us in the the comments below why you are thankful for family!

"Your devotion to God is illustrated, demonstrated, and authenticated by your love for others."
- Andy Stanley.

When in a position of leadership you can have many great qualities but what leaves a lasting impact and makes these qualities effective is love. As believers our number one commandment above all else is to love and if we can do this effectively everything else will fall into place.

Who is a leader that has marked you by how they lead?

TRIVIA NIGHT

There’s nothing like having some pizza, salad, and cheesecake for dinner and then competing in some good ole fashion trivia! We competed by apartments and it was a great time! Did I mention we took an intermission in the middle to dance? It was a great time of fellowship, friendship, and family.

Tag the 3 people you’d want on your trivia squad!

There are times that it can be easy to cast judgment on a leader that has made a decision that we may have not agreed with. This quote reminds us that there may be areas of a position that can never be understood until we are put in that position. This can remind us to continually pray for our leaders that are above us because they are always under a pressure that we may not understand. It can also prepare us for leadership by reminding us that there are pressures in leadership that we ought to prepare for and so that those under us are truly taken care of.

Community is at the root of who we are at SCSL. Show Some Love is a community service event we have once every couple of months. We get together in separate groups and serve our community in unique ways. Last week we visited with elderly congregation members of our church, Christian Life Columbia, who are shut in their homes this Christmas season because of COVID. We gave them gift bags, and we sang Christmas carols to them. This Show Some Love event was a perfect kickoff to this holiday season!

|| SC Youth Convention ||
Last month we were able to travel to Greenville, SC and serve at the South Carolina Youth Convention. It was a powerful weekend and we saw God move in the lives of youth students from all across the state of South Carolina. Every so often we are able to participate in ministry trips. This is where a group of our students travel to different areas of the country and serve churches, conventions or anything of the sort. We serve in many different ways whether be serving in kids ministry, worship, youth ministry, and everything in between. These trips are always so impactful and where some of the best memories are made. It’s such a blessing to be able to share the gospel in so many different ways.

Comment down below some memories of ministry trips that you have been on!

Thanksgiving break was such a blessing to each and every one of us. After a great couple of weeks with family and friends back home, we all reunited before the school week over bagels and coffee. Our reunite events are always so special, and nothing is as refreshing as seeing the SCSL family again after a long break. Welcome back, students!

|| FAMILY FUNDRAISER ||
Something you may not know about us is every year we get the opportunity to do participate in a family fundraiser. That means all of us get to raise money towards our tuition as a school. This year we were able to work the South Carolina State Fair and we had a blast! It caused us to grow closer, make new friendships and make unforgettable memories that will last a life time. Did we mention we ate WAY too many funnel cakes? We definitely know how to put the FUN in FUNdraiser!

Comment your favorite memory from the fair! For our alumni, comment your favorite memory from your family fundraiser!

The capital building, local high schools, hospitals, University of South Carolina campus, these are just a few of the many places that our that our students traveled to for our recent Show Some Love event. As a school we were able to seek God’s heart for the Community through prayer. Show Some Love is a unique outreach opportunity that students get to participate in several times a year. We go to different places in our area and show the love of God to the people in our community. We show this in numerous ways whether that be through service projects, giving, prayer, or even Christmas caroling. As Gods people we are called to love our neighbor and this is just one of the many ways that we do so. We can’t wait for our next event!

Comment what you want to see more of and some memories from a Show Some Love event that you’ve been apart of!!

Entertaining, hilarious, and downright fun! These are some words used to describe our Discipleship Family (DFAM) skits, which are our way of announcing who is in which small group family. Discipleship Families are student lead, family oriented, small groups that give our students the opportunity to disciple each other from year one to year four. At SCSL we give students a handful of opportunities to help them enjoy time together by bringing unity, building relationships and making memories.

Are you excited for DFAMs this year and what are you most excited for?

| TESTIMONY |

“In Romans 12:2, Paul tells us not to “conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” The Lord has used my experience at SCSL to transform me. At SCSL there is a great emphasis on being rooted in the word of God and spending time in His presence, all while being surrounded by a loving community of believers. These are things that have truly transformed me. I have touched true freedom, not because I am at a great school, but because there is such an emphasis on the transformative work of the Lord. Every day I sign up again to be transformed. Every day I get to sit with thankfulness at the feet of Jesus for what He’s done in my life. And even in difficulty, when things are hard, I know He’s still at work. I love SCSL and I love the Lord’s kindness in allowing me to spend a season here.”
