Congratulations to PhD students Katie Darmer and Bryson Martin, selected by Jonas Philanthropies as two of 80 doctoral nursing students from across the country for the 2026-2028 Jonas Scholars Program!

Over the next two years, Katie and Bryson will learn from national nursing leaders, build connections with a network of forward-thinking peers and develop strategies to prepare for careers as nursing faculty.

Join the Perinatal, Pediatrics, and Family Research Center for a virtual research forum exploring cannabis use during pregnancy. Guest presenters Marie A. Hayes, PhD, of Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and Sharon G. Casavant, PhD, RN, of the University of Connecticut Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing, will discuss provider conversations around perinatal cannabis use and women’s perceptions of cannabis, alcohol, and to***co use during pregnancy.

Congratulations to Stephanie Schaller, associate professor, on receiving the University of South Carolina Center for Teaching Excellence Garnet Apple Award for Teaching Innovation. 🍎

Schaller developed Study Navigator, an AI-powered tool that helps nursing students connect textbook learning to clinical application. Her innovation is helping prepare the next generation of nurses for practice.
