We’re excited to welcome Joe Armistead to the Mizzou School of Social Work! 🎉 Joe brings a wealth of experience in law enforcement and college-level teaching, and we look forward to the knowledge and real-world perspectives he’ll share with our students. We are thrilled to have him as part of our community!🐯

Meet the new faculty who have joined the College of Health Sciences!

First up is Joe Armistead, an assistant teaching professor in the Criminal and Justice Studies program.

Joe recently retired as captain with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He brings his law enforcement experience and previous college-level teaching to his work with students.

"I am especially excited to work with students as they examine important issues facing the field today and connect classroom learning to real-world challenges," he said.

Today, nearly 100 social work and nursing students came together for an Interprofessional Education (IPE) Seminar focused on an emerging approach to behavioral health care.

Dr. Dani Adams, Assistant Professor in the MU School of Social Work, led “Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: An Introduction to a Novel Treatment for Behavioral Health Disorders,” alongside Sinclair School of Nursing faculty Dr. Nancy Birtley and Dr. Miriam Butler.

Students explored the current evidence, clinical applications, ethical considerations, and the evolving role of interprofessional collaboration in psychedelic-assisted therapy and behavioral health practice.

Thank you to Drs. Adams, Birtley, and Butler for bringing students together to learn across disciplines and engage in thoughtful conversations about emerging approaches to care. 🐯💛
