More than 800 miles separate Rebekah Gaber’s hometown in Pennsylvania from the CVM, but the college’s 2+2 curriculum offered exactly what she was looking for. Its blend of classroom learning and hands-on clinical experience aligned with her goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian.
That goal began taking shape in middle school, when a chance encounter while horseback riding led to an opportunity to shadow a local veterinarian. Seeing firsthand the work involved in caring for dairy cattle and supporting rural producers solidified Rebekah’s interest in veterinary medicine.
Now a second-year veterinary student, Rebekah is building her skills through her coursework and hands-on experiences beyond the classroom, including serving as president of the Mule Team, working with the equine ICU team and working at Foremost Dairy.
“I learn best from hands-on experience, and Mizzou’s 2+2 model is great fit for my learning style,” Rebekah said. “My goal is to return home and become a rural ambulatory veterinarian, providing care for large animals and supporting agricultural communities that need more food animal veterinarians.”
