Saturday marks the 90th anniversary of the OSU Marching Band’s Script Ohio formation! First performed at a 1936 football game against Pittsburgh, the formation has become the signature of TBDBITL. The tradition began with band Director Eugene Weigel, who took inspiration from the Marquee sign of the Ohio Theatre in Downtown Columbus.

There’s no better way to celebrate Founders Day than with free ice cream!

This year we’re commemorating not only the anniversary of the first-ever day of classes on Sept. 17, 1873, but the 100th anniversary of Maudine Ormsby – a record-setting OSU Holstein – being crowned Homecoming Queen in 1926.

Join us and Ohio Staters, Inc., at the Oval-side entrance of Thompson Library from 2-4 p.m. to get your free cup of Maudine’s Berry Patch ice cream from Parker Dairy Ice Cream, from Ohio State Department of Food Science and Technology. Plus, the Buckeye Dairy Club is hosting a milk-a-cow event nearby on the Oval.

What is Founders Day? It’s the annual nod to the first-ever day of classes on Sept. 17, 1873!

This year, University Archives and Ohio Staters, Inc. are celebrating in style, by honoring Maudine Ormsby, the OSU Holstein that was crowned Homecoming Queen in 2026. We’ll be at Thompson Library handing out free cups of Maudine’s Berry Patch ice cream from Parker Dairy Ice Cream, from the Ohio State Department of Food Science and Technology, and fun facts about Maudine and other OSU cows.

Meanwhile, the Buckeye Dairy Club will be hosting a milk-a-cow event nearby on the Oval. It happens on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2-4 p.m. at the Oval-side entrance of Thompson Library!
