Maeve Reidy (the absolutely adorable daughter of Dr. Marielle Reidy) had her InfantSEE exam today with Dr. Ann Morrison and student Drew Peters. She had a blast!

New PhD Students:

Mason Clutter (OD/MS'26) started his PhD the Monday after graduation, advised by Drs. Nick Fogt and Marjean Kulp. Beyond his binocular vision research, Mason is a rock climber and SCUBA diver. He loves attending Academy meetings, exploring new cities and being part of the research community.

Bruno Felalaga, MS, joins us this semester, advised by Drs. Stacey Choi and Nathan Doble, researching red blood cell tracking in retinal blood flow imaging. Bruno earned his master's in computer science from the University of Chicago in 2025 and has worked as a software engineer and lab assistant. Originally from Ghana, he's an avid soccer fan and player, and he's excited to dive into the Vision Science community and explore Columbus.

Ohio State Optometry students just returned from an amazing SVOSH service trip to Peru!

According to student leaders Lily Panehal and Elizabeth Svinkin, “We saw over 550 patients in Yangas, Canta over four clinic days and provided eye exams and glasses. 20 participants: 18 Ohio State Optometry students and two attending doctors. We also had free time to explore the beautiful areas in Lima, Peru including the coastal district of Miraflores. Thank you to our hosts Mark Backlin and Elvira Gonzalez for all of their hard work in helping us plan the trip this year.”

The highlight of today's College of Optometry Employee Appreciation Luncheon was the surprise reveal of our 2026 Staff Award Winners: Bri Leverett (Distinguished Staff Member of the Year) and Kim Huynh (Emerging Professional Achievement Award), joined by Dr. Greg Nixon, Associate Dean for Clinical Services.

Congratulations to Dr. Marielle Reidy, who received her PhD in Vision Science at Sunday’s Summer Commencement! Dr. Reidy will become the college’s newest Assistant Clinical Professor on August 16. She is pictured with Dr. Karla Zadnik and Dr. Don Mutti.
