Last week, our faculty and staff gathered at the Columbus Zoo for a retreat. 🦁

We discussed what the future looks like for MAE, the possibilities of AI and how to ignite our spark. It was a day to step away, reconnect, and look toward the future. A huge thank you to Rob Siston, Tiffany McGough, and to Todd Bertsch for organizing and hosting the department.

We are energized and excited for the start of the school year!

After a successful first year, MAE's Buckeye STEM Bridge Program returned this summer with twice as many participants, expanding its reach to new schools and districts, giving students an opportunity to explore STEM through hands-on research experiences. 🔬

For six weeks, students worked on mini research projects in Scott Lab and around the Ohio State campus, guided by faculty and student mentors.

Students visited research facilities including the Center for Automotive Research, the Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex, George Washington Carver Science Park (Starlab) and NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

“I like to think that six weeks is a good amount of time to start something of consequence in your life, and that’s what this program is about: getting more students started on a STEM career,” Mrinal Kumar, director of the program, shared.

Congratulations to Isaac Hong, who was awarded an Accelerator Award. 🎉

This award is administered by The Ohio State University, funded by Ohio Third Frontier and Ohio Development Service Agency.

The funding supports the translation of research, the development of a new system for mechanical performance of rotating machinery and producing a commercial ready prototype.

“Integrated High Speed Data Acquisition System for Advancing Engineering of Rotating Machinery”, or “RotorTest" prioritizes more affordable, easier to use data acquisition solution for engineers to validate designs efficiently, reducing development cycles and improving reliability.

The prototype is being developed in collaboration with Converge Technologies and ResCon Technologies.
