Architect and Josephinum adjunct professor William Heyer recently presented “Observations on the State of Sacred Architecture 1988-2026” at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. The talk was part of the Catholic Art Institute’s 7th annual conference, “Redeeming Culture: Beauty as a Path to Evangelization.”

Today, October 7, is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Saint Pius V established this feast as "Our Lady of Victory" to give thanks for the Christian victory over the Turks at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, a victory attributed to the faithful’s fervent praying of the Rosary.
Pope Gregory XIII changed the name to the "Feast of the Holy Rosary" in 1573. In 1913, Saint Pius X set its date as the 7th of October, now known as the Month of the Rosary.

The 2026 Mud Bowl flag football game yesterday between the College of Cardinals and Theology Papal Bulls was a great afternoon of friendly rivalry! The Theology team took home the victor's trophy with a 14-0 win.

Seminarians Donvito Cortese (Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston), Gills Phillips (Diocese of St Thomas USVI) and Ladouceur Flairssaint (Diocese of Ogdensburg) were admitted to Candidacy for Holy Orders on October 2, by Most Reverend Earl K. Fernandes, Bishop Columbus and Josephinum Vice Chancellor.

During the Rite, each man declares publicly his desire to be bound in Holy Orders. Candidacy also is a reception of that offering by the Church, and a new commitment by the candidate to care for his vocation.

It was a beautiful morning for the 2026 Friends of the Josephinum 5K Run/Walk! Hundreds of participants came to the Josephinum campus for this incredible event, all to benefit the Friends’ mission of helping our seminarians on the path to the priesthood. It was an amazing show of support for our future priests!

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the Josephinum’s 2026 Jessing Alumnus of the Year Award: Father Joseph McCaffrey and Mr. Vincent Bove!

Father McCaffrey T'87 has served the Church for nearly 40 years, including as pastor of numerous parishes, bishop's secretary, a juvenile prison chaplain, and, since 1992, an FBI chaplain. He currently serves as Episcopal Vicar of the North Vicariate in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.

With passion for the Faith and serving others, Mr. Vincent Bove T'85 of Florham Park, NJ, is a respected security and safety professional whose career has focused on protecting people and strengthening organizational preparedness. Steven Beseau (Rector/President); a campus tour led by Alumni Liaison Michael Fry T'85; and a prayerful gathering at the Josephinum Cemetery, where many former rectors and priest-faculty are laid to rest.
