At a time when biodiversity loss is accelerating worldwide, her research is helping scientists turn vast amounts of ecological data into actionable insights for conservation, environmental stewardship, and broadening our understanding of the natural world.

In 2025, Berger-Wolf was named an AAAS Fellow, recognizing her contributions to computational ecology and interdisciplinary science.

A spring break of service 😍
A group of Buckeyes traveled to Guatemala in late March as part of a service learning course. During the in‑country portion, student teams implemented a range of solutions tailored to community priorities. Deliverables included prototypes and pilot installations for household biogas systems, solar‑powered water heating, water quality testing programs and community planning documents.

The relationship between Ohio State and U.S. Soccer traces back to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. At the time, a colleague of Integrated Systems Engineering Assoc. Prof. Joshua Hagen’s who was then head of high performance for the U.S. Men’s National Team approached Ohio State with a bold idea: Design and install a premier recovery facility inside the team hotel. That early collaboration set the stage for a formal partnership.

Congrats to College of Engineering students Ian Crafton (architecture) & Satvik Gupta (chemical engineering, who teamed up with computer science major Suvan Dommeti and neuroscience major Juhi Kotwani to win top honors at Ohio State's Smart Campus Challenge!

Their project, Shut the Sash, is a digital dashboard that analyzes energy consumption data related to fume hood usage at Ohio State. It also includes a BuckeyeLearn module and signage in laboratories to educate university researchers on energy-saving approaches.

They were awarded $60K in implementation funding and a trip to Paris to visit ENGIE’s headquarters and engage with industry leaders.

Chemical engineering graduate student Caleb Russell teamed with Ben Rosenthal (Environment, Economy, Development, & Sustainability) to secure second place with their innovative approach to organic waste management on the regional campuses. A team that includes Greyson Hackett (landscape architecture) and Max Rojanasakdakul (mechanical engineering) clinched third place with a project that expands the community garden near the Fisher College of Business.

And he's enlisted the help of a cadre of company founders, venture capitalists and engineering leaders – most of whom are Ohio State alumni – to share their insights and experiences.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Fernando Teixeira has been named the new director of the ElectroScience Laboratory (ESL), effective August 15.

ESL has long been a leading research center in all aspects of electromagnetics and radio frequency systems, including antenna design, computational electromagnetics, radar systems, navigation, signal processing and advanced communication technologies.
