The Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter is now accepting applications for our Delta Academy and Delta G.E.M.S. mentorship programs. The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy was created in 1996 out of an urgent sense that bold action was needed to save our young females (ages 11-14) from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures. Dr. Jeanne L. Noble created Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) to provide a framework for African American girls ages 14-19 to actualize their dreams through specific tasks that develop a CAN-DO attitude. Through these programs, the chapter aims to:
• Instill the need to excel academically
• Provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success
• Assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures in high school and beyond
• Create compassionate, caring, and community-minded young women by actively involving them in service learning opportunities
• Fostering well-rounded girls through character development, literacy, and service learning
• Providing opportunities for scholarship in Science, Technology, Arts, and Math
(STEAM)
• Encouraging community service and self-esteem building
• Introducing social action and higher education at Historically Black Colleges &
Universities (HBCUs)
• Promoting African American history and literacy through book clubs and field trips
• Supporting local community events and activities to enhance the knowledge of participants in identified focus areas

Celebrating 100 years of impactful service, delegates from AL, FL, GA, MS, TN, and the Bahamas gathered for the 50th Southern Regional Conference in Atlanta, GA. Beginning with Impact Day, 4000 students received paid Common Black College Applications to over 50 institutions of higher learning during the HBCU Fair, some walking away with acceptances. Continuing her legacy of the Southern Region donating to every HBCU in the region, outgoing Regional Director Amaris Johnson and Regional Representative Noelle Seymour culminated their tenure with a donation to Tuskegee University, where Gamma Tau was the first chapter established in the region. The Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter, along with our sister chapters Columbus (GA) Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and Theta Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. proudly represented the region and honored the legacies of our trailblazers and their historical influences at the Delta Museum. The Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter is honored and grateful to the Annual Black History Month Observance Committee for this wonderful opportunity for our young scholars of the Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta G.E.M.S. and Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy. This award will allow us to continue to expand our programming and provide much-needed opportunities for the girls, including:
• Enhancing interest in STEAM and careers where minority women are scarcely represented
• Fostering well-rounded girls through character development and service learning
• Providing opportunities for scholarship in Science, Technology, Arts, and Math (STEAM)
• Encouraging community service and self-esteem building

The Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter hosted our end of the year tea for the Delta G.E.M.S. and Academy. The theme was “Bloom Where You Are Planted,” and the keynote speaker was Amaya Graham, News Leader 9 Anchor/Reporter. Congratulations to our graduating seniors! We look forward to seeing our returning participants, along with some new faces this fall. The application for 2026-2027 Delta G.E.M.S. And Academy will be posted on the chapter page and website. The Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter is raising awareness about period poverty—the inability to afford menstrual products as well as limited access to education, clean facilities, and supportive policies. These barriers can keep people from fully participating in school, work, and daily life.

Today, two in five people who menstruate struggle to afford period supplies. One meaningful way to help address this issue is by supporting product drives that provide essential items to those in need.

Menstrual Hygiene Drive
We invite you to support our chapter’s menstrual hygiene drive benefiting local schools in recognition of World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
