We see you Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Lambda Pi Omega Chapter 💕💚

The NPHC of Metro Detroit is shining a spotlight on our 32 member chapters. Today we are highlighting the Lambda Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. They were chartered September 10, 1977 and service Metro Detroit.

On September 10, 1977, 25 visionary women chartered the Lambda Pi Omega Chapter, becoming the second graduate chapter in Metro Detroit and setting the foundation for decades of service.

In 2002, Lambda Pi Omega Chapter expanded its reach by establishing the Pearls of Promise Foundation, Incorporated, strengthening its work in education, health, and economic empowerment.

Through the Educational Advancement Foundation Committee, the Legacy of Pearls Endowment Fund, and multiple named endowed scholarships — including the Carrie J. Clark, Crystal & Eugene Sewell, Dolores A. Sturdivant, Dorothy Reid Arnold, and Wendye D. Mingo IT funds — Lambda Pi Omega continues to invest in future generations.

Together, these initiatives ensure that future generations have access to opportunities, resources, and support that reflect the chapter’s unwavering dedication to excellence.

We see you Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Eta Iota Omega Chapter!🩷💚

The NPHC of Metro Detroit is shining a spotlight on our 32 member chapters. Today we are highlighting the Eta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. They were chartered February 6, 1960 and service the Inkster and Western Wayne County.

Eta Iota Omega upholds a powerful legacy of philanthropy and educational investment. Through its partnership with the Service Builders Foundation, the chapter has contributed over $250,000 toward higher education and career advancement. During its 50th Anniversary year, it awarded an unprecedented $50,000 in scholarships and program funding, reinforcing its commitment to empowering future generations.

Recognized with the Outstanding Chapter Award more than a dozen times, Eta Iota Omega continues to lead through service that uplifts children, adults, and seniors. For over 66 years, the chapter has been a cornerstone in Inkster—partnering with community organizations, local government, and federal programs to support youth employment, workforce development, and violence prevention.

The chapter also pioneered a landmark partnership with Barden Cablevision, securing grant funding for “Arts on Cable” and “Arts in the Community.” These initiatives opened doors for seniors and youth alike—from ceramic arts supporting cognitive wellness to hands‑on training in television production, wiring, broadcasting, and programming. This work bridged arts, technology, and workforce readiness, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

We see you Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Alpha Rho Omega Chapter!

The NPHC of Metro Detroit is shining a spotlight on our 32 member chapters. Today we are highlighting the Alpha Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. They were chartered December 15, 1922 and service Detroit.

Detroit’s Alpha Rho Omega Chapter has been leading with service since 1922. With 500+ members, ARO’s impact spans youth leadership, food security, civic engagement, and support for families across the city.

The Beulah T. Whitby Foundation strengthens that work — delivering meals, mentoring AKATeens, awarding $20K scholarships, and fueling health equity. In 2024–25 alone, 309 volunteers powered 10 programs and served 626 meals.

This is Detroit service in action — intentional, intergenerational, and unstoppable.

The Metro Detroit chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® were proud to support our Divine Nine sisters of at their Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - Midwest Regional
Conference Public Meeting as they begin the official countdown to their 100th Midwest Regional Conference.

It was wonderful to see our chapter and Great Lakes Regional leadership in attendance, standing together in the spirit of service, collaboration, and sisterhood. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this historic milestone and show our support as all roads lead to Detroit!

Congratulations to our Delta sisters on this exciting journey to 100!
