Happy Founders’ Day, ODU! 🖤💛 We started the day with Doughnuts with Dominic, gathered for a special Founders’ Day Mass, and wrapped up the celebration by diving into ODU’s history, including why some might argue our founding story began even earlier than 1911! Ohio Dominican University celebrated the legacy of Blessed Fulton J. Sheen with the unveiling and blessing of a new commemorative plaque in Matesich Theatre, where the renowned philosopher, theologian, and communicator once delivered a series of lectures to the ODU community.

A new commemorative plaque honoring Blessed Fulton J. Sheen now calls Matesich Theatre home.

Bishop Earl K. Fernandes joined the Ohio Dominican community to bless the plaque, which celebrates Sheen’s special connection to ODU. Sheen first spoke on campus in 1935 and returned throughout the 1940s as part of the Erskine Lecture Series. Special thanks to Michael Dougherty, Ph.D., and ODU’s Philosophy Department for helping preserve and share this important part of our university’s history.
