The Office of International Affairs cultivates and nurtures the growth of global perspectives at The Ohio State University. International Affairs oversees the Study Abroad Program, International Student and Scholar Services, five Area Studies Centers and the Global Gateways. The office also sponsors and administers grants, develops international agreements with foreign institutions, supports student scholars and conducts education outreach and special events.

What a way to kick off the semester! 🎉

The Office of International Affairs and the Council of Graduate Students (CGS) welcomed students to Ohio State with an International Block Party featuring food, games, popsicles and plenty of opportunities to connect before the start of the school year. A special thanks to President Ravi Bellamkonda, Dr. Lalita Kaligotla and Brutus Buckeye for stopping by and helping us celebrate our newest Buckeyes from across the globe.

Before the academic year begins, our new international students are building connections, discovering campus resources and getting to know their new home through 59 welcome events and 20 orientation sessions. Along the way, orientation leaders and staff are introducing students to local favorites – from the Ohio State Fair to cheering on the Columbus Clippers, visiting Whetstone Park of Roses in Clintonville to exploring Schiller Park in German Village and more. We’re so glad you’re here and can’t wait to see your Buckeye adventure begin!

“I learned that I am more adaptable and independent than I realized. Going abroad without any other Ohio State student pushed me outside my comfort zone, but I quickly embraced meeting new people and immersing myself in a new culture. This experience definitely gave me greater confidence in my ability to thrive in unfamiliar environments,” reflected Katie George, a marketing major on the Fisher College of Business Undergraduate Exchange - WHU, Otto Beisheim School of Management program.

George spent three weeks in Vallendar, Germany exploring the business, political and cultural environment in Europe through lectures, company visits and collaborative projects with students around the world.

“I managed to connect with locals from the hospitals, shops and all around the city and build meaningful connections with others from my program while abroad. I also got to experience the healthcare system in Hungary and compare it to the healthcare system in the United States,” reflected Erick Maldonado-Parejo, an exercise science major on the Atlantis - Pre-Health Shadowing Experiences in Budapest, Hungary 🇭🇺

“You will never go to university without money and connections,” a neighbor once mocked in 2011. I still remember this phrase, her attitude, and expression when she mocked me," said Aula Andika Fikrullah Albalad, a PhD student from Indonesia in The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology.

"Yet, while catching rainwater in buckets, my mother, who could neither read nor write, gave me enduring hope: “Aula, I want you to pursue your degree to the highest education as you can, even in America. Once you study there, our lives will surely change, I believe.”

"At The Ohio State University I am now fulfilling the promise my mother made on those rainy days. To me, living in America means transforming deep adversity into global purpose, proving to the world that where you begin never dictates how far you can go," explained Aula.

Lorraine Wallace’s Fulbright U.S. Specialist experience in Vietnam offered more than an opportunity to strengthen medical education—it deepened her understanding of how culture, community and health intersect.

While collaborating with Trường Đại học Y Dược Cần Thơ, Wallace led faculty workshops, supported curriculum development and built lasting partnerships rooted in reciprocal learning and cross-cultural exchange.
