How could artificial intelligence change the way people resolve legal disputes?

Professor Amy J. Schmitz, director of JusticeTech at Ohio State, explores that question in The Cambridge Handbook of AI in Civil Dispute Resolution, a new book she co-edited with Pietro Ortolani and Marco Giacalone.

Featuring insights from experts around the world, the book examines how AI is already being used in civil justice systems and considers how the technology could make dispute resolution more efficient and accessible—while also raising important questions about fairness, ethics, and accountability.

Originally from Clearfield, Pennsylvania, Luke earned a degree in management from Penn State. Luke chose Ohio State Law for its strong reputation and proximity to home and is currently interested in business and corporate law as well as sports and entertainment law.

Outside the classroom, Luke is a professional Cossack dancer and is looking forward to exploring Columbus’ food scene and experiencing Buckeye football.

Grant B. Knight joins the Ohio State Law Class of 2029 after receiving a degree in accounting from Brigham Young University. Originally from Pleasant View, Utah, Grant chose to come to Moritz because it felt like a supportive community. It's also a place that will help get him achieve his goals.

"I plan to pursue a law career in corporate and tax law," Grant shared. "Ohio is home to many
large corporations who have strong relationships with Moritz College of Law. I'm excited to begin law school and make many new connections in Ohio."

Grant once hiked 500 miles across Spain as part of a study abroad program. In Columbus, he is looking forward to exploring German Village, the Book Loft, the Shoe, and the Law Library. Welcome, Grant!

Meet Cyrus Barce, Ohio State Law Class of 2029! Cyrus attended Indiana University and earned a degree in business. He is interested in criminal law and estate planning.

"I was very excited by the externships offered by Moritz and wanted to attend a great law school in the Midwest," Cyrus shared.

Congratulations to Ohio State Law student Olivia Beckett on receiving the Purdue University Barbara Cook Fellowship from Mortar Board National College Honor Society!

Olivia is one of just ten recipients nationwide in the organization’s 2026–2027 Fellowship Program. The fellowship will support Olivia as she pursues her J.D. at Moritz. Olivia hopes to build a career in public interest law using legal advocacy and policy reform to expand educational opportunities.
