Please join us for Dr. Yu Chan (Lily) Shih’s presentation, “Hearing: A Musician’s Most Valuable Instrument”, on October 7th, in the Concert Hall at 4:00 PM.

Dr. Shih is a licensed clinical audiologist and lifelong musician who performed for over 12 years across orchestras in Taiwan and the U.S. She studied audiology at the University of North Texas while performing in UNT's Chinese Ensemble, has worked with Veterans in the VA healthcare system since 2021, and founded Happy Ears Audiology. Her talk will focus on hearing conservation for musicians.

Congrats to our Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band on a thrilling performance last night to a packed house! The program, “Fire and Water”, presented the audience with a wide array of sounds and moods that captured the imagination. Mason Rumsey, the 2026 concerto competition winner, gave an electrifying performance of Keiko Abe’s marimba concerto “The WAVE Impressions” with an immediate standing ovation from the audience following.

ETAMU Interim Instructor of Clarinet Dr. Jody Webb will be presenting a TMEA All-State Etudes Masterclass on Saturday, September 19th, at the Frisco High School Band Hall from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Teaching in the DFW Metroplex for more than 30 years, Dr. Webb’s students have placed as prizewinners and finalists in numerous competitions and enjoyed success in the TMEA All-State and Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Ensembles. Former students have gone on to win positions in the LA Philharmonic and the Milwaukee Symphony as well as rewarding careers as teachers and performers.

Dr. Webb is an active performer and masterclass presenter in the DFW area. He won the International Clarinet Association's Orchestral Audition Competition in Stockholm, Sweden, and has performed and presented at ClarinetFest® and the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. In 2021 and 2025 he was a member of the Artistic Leadership Team for ClarinetFest®. Dr. Webb is a Backun artist and plays MoBa Grenadilla silver clarinets.

Please join us on September 16th, in the Concert Hall at 4:00 PM for Dr. Joseph Murphy’s presentation on teaching principles.

Dr. Murphy served as saxophone professor at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania from 1987–2022, where he also held roles as director of bands and department chair. A Fulbright Award recipient, he has performed on all six continents, given a solo recital at Lincoln Center, premiered over 100 new works, and recorded 10 CDs. He will be sharing his teaching principles with us.

Over the summer, senior music major Lynzie Van Fleet completed a month-long young artist residency at Opera Seme. This esteemed program, founded by ETAMU Assistant Professor Matthew Schloneger, is hosted at the Spazio Seme International Artistic Center in Arezzo, Italy, where Van Fleet participated in lessons, masterclasses, workshops, and performances of Mozart’s opera “Così fan Tutte.”

A new look for a proud tradition.

Today, we are proud to unveil the next chapter of the Pride Marching Band. These uniforms represent more than a new appearance, they reflect the excellence, spirit, and tradition that define East Texas A&M University and our band program.

This exciting milestone would not have been possible without the support and vision of Dr. Mark Rudin, President of East Texas A&M University, Dr. Joseph Romero, Dean of the College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts, and the many alumni and supporters whose commitment to the Pride Marching Band continues to make a lasting impact on our students.

We are also grateful to Fred J. Miller Inc. for their partnership and craftsmanship in helping bring this vision to life.

Join us on September 12th at Memorial Stadium as the Pride Marching Band debuts our new uniforms when the Lions take on Northwestern State. Go Lions!
