Exciting news!!!

In case you didn’t hear the news, Dr. Quarles is a co-author to one of two newly accepted papers that provide strong evidence for a potential planet around Alpha Cen A. Dr. Quarles’s contributions focused on the orbital modeling crucial to explaining the non-detection of the planet in some of the images.

A university press release about the discovery is here:
https://www.etamu.edu/news/east-texas-am-professor-contributes-to-major-discovery-of-planet-candidate-in-nearby-star-system/

And the paper itself is worth a read as well. (See section 2 for an explanation of the many trials and tribulations of trying to image a putative planet.)

Congrats Dr. Quarles!

This link is a great resource that explains the difference between our University lighting and tornado alarms! It also includes widgets to listen to each alarm, helping you recognize each and respond accordingly.

It is that time of year, so be knowledgeable about what is going on and how to stay safe!

Do you know the difference between a lightning alarm and a tornado alarm when they sound off on the A&M-Commerce campus?
