TD Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative

A TD Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative, also known as Sustain Coastal, is committed to transform Coastal Carolina University into an environmentally sustainable university through campus operations, student curriculum, engaging students through learning and outreach, and collaboration in the community through sustainable stewardship of resources. Established in 2005, Sustain Coastal coordinates sustainable projects and programs on campus and in the community, including recycling, water refill stations, waste reduction, conservation, alternative transportation, as well as campus events such as the Farmers Markets, Sustainability Fair, Landfill on the Lawn, Celebrate the Earth and Campus Salvage. The office manages the Eco-Rep Leaders, the Student Green Team and serves as an advisor to the Students for Environmental Awareness club.

🕵️‍♀️✨ Need to track down a Techno Bin to recycle your e-waste? Here are some of the top locations on campus:

✔️ LJSU (Across from A-102)
✔️ Thompson Library (Beside the elevator)
✔️ Edwards Building (Main entrance)
✔️ Prince Building (Left side of the main lobby)
✔️ Wall Building (Left of 116)
✔️ Douglas Hall (Outside 102 Suite)
✔️ Smith Building (Across from 112)
✔️ Swain Hall (Across from 114)

Items that belong in these bins include empty ink cartridges, used batteries, cables, chargers, and other small electronics. 🔌🗑️

The Farmers Market begins at 9 a.m. and the Sustainability Fair will start at 10 a.m. While there, you can shop local vendors and play Sustainability Bingo to win a prize! 🛍✨

If your mini-recycling bin is getting full, no worries! All academic and administrative buildings on campus have recycling stations throughout each building! ♻️

Want to do more to help divert waste from our local landfill? Separate your food waste from your trash with a personal compost bin and empty it out in a compost bin in one of the following locations:

✔️LJSU - Inside Relaxation Room
✔️Kearns Hall - Across from the elevator on the 2nd floor
✔️Brittain Hall - Outside room 336
