Senior theatre major Cora Mattson shares a day in her summer with us!
Cora took part in the Directing Training Company summer program with Powerhouse Theater at Vassar, where she took classes, attended rehearsals and visiting professional workshops, and ultimately worked with a writer to develop workshops of short plays.
Cora’s Hendrix experience helped prepare her to make the most of this fantastic opportunity. Via the Hendrix theatre department, she has been exposed to different approaches to collaboration, problem-solving, and the creative process. In particular, the Stage Directing course Cora took at Hendrix gave her an understanding of the process of casting and directing a 10-minute scene—experience she found invaluable during the Powerhouse program.
As she begins her senior year, Cora is excited to apply what she learned at Vassar to her senior seminar production at Hendrix this spring.
“I’ll be able to combine all of the methodologies that I observed and researched into my own to create an environment that feels personal to me when I am directing or choreographing,” she says.
Cora’s summer is one example of how a Hendrix education extends beyond the classroom, connecting students with opportunities to learn, grow, and put their skills into practice.
Opportunities like this come Via Hendrix—and Cora is bringing what she learned back to campus as she begins her senior year.
