We are the Council of International Students and Organizations (COISO), the University of Miami’s premier club for international students and, consequently, all international students are automatically members of COISO. By participating in our meetings and events, you will get to know fellow international students from over 110 countries and ensure that COISO provides the types of ser

📜 History

Established in 1967 by a group of individuals who wished to represent all international and related organizations while promoting global citizenship, COISO aims to integrate international students into campus life while also spreading cultural awareness through a number of unique programs. Successor of the “International Club” founded in 1957, COISO is an organization open to people from all nationalities and cultural backgrounds that provides a safe space for students because it believes that our true nationality is Human.

🌐 Current Situation

Presently, COISO boasts hundreds of members as well as countless of proud and successful alumni. Through organizing and executing events, while also advocating for international awareness and tolerance, COISO is constantly working to serve the University’s international students and cultural organizations to promote and foster a culture of belonging and global citizenship. We are proud to say that members of COISO, both past and present, have formed a family bond that supersedes all cultural difference, language barriers, and international borders. 🏆 Recognition

In our decades-long legacy, COISO has grown to become one of the largest student organizations at the University of Miami. Having received numerous awards over the years, including Organization of the Year, Program of the Year, Community Outreach and Social Change Initiative, Sustainable Program, Best Week Ever, and Collaborative Program of the Year, COISO continues to generate positive change on- and off-campus. Additionally, our members have received numerous recognitions, including but not limited to Student Leader of the Year, Senior Legacy Award, Social Justice Advocate of the Year, Unsung Hero Award, and First-Year Leadership Award, honoring their lasting and positive impact on the ’Canes family and our beloved University.
