Building for the Future

On every level, our School of Education & Human Development is building for the future. Not only are we planning new facilities, we are also launching new undergraduate and graduate programs, applying for new research grants, and creating new community partnerships. Our vision is to be a center of excellence in the promotion and integration of educational, psychological, a

nd physical well-being in multicultural communities. Accordingly, we have aligned our three departments – Teaching and Learning (TAL), Educational and Psychological Studies(EPS), and Kinesiology and Sport Sciences (KIN) – to help us move along the path toward that vision.

The community ownership field is at a critical inflection point. With over 300 grassroots organizations holding ~$10B in assets, the field remains fragmented β€” with capital stacks that are improvised and difficult to replicate.

In partnership with Bridgespan Group, UM's Community Ownership Learning & Action (COLA) Lab released a first-of-its-kind feasibility study and hosted a webinar to answer the question: "How can financial aggregation unlock the capital community ownership needs to scale β€” without sacrificing community control?"
