University of Iowa Faculty and Staff – here's your chance to discover the Iowa Lions Eye Bank!

Iowa Lions Eye Bank (ILEB), part of the UI Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, is the only eye bank in the state of Iowa and supports all 99 counties.

ILEB visitors are invited to learn how eye bank staff recover, evaluate, process, and distribute ocular tissue donated by generous individuals for use in corneal transplantation, research, and education at the University of Iowa and throughout the world. Guests will also learn how Iowa Lions Eye Bank honors donors and their loved ones for the gift of sight, provides outreach and education to the public, and engages in cutting-edge research to revolutionize our understanding and treatment of eye disease and improve eye banking practices.

The BioVentures Center goes global! 🌍 Last week, Michal Brzus – BVC tenant and CEO of NeuroPred – welcomed an African healthcare delegation to for a conversation about healthcare innovation, entrepreneurship and technology.

During the two-hour discussion, Brzus covered the company’s technology and origins as a startup, as well as insights into how healthcare startups in the U.S. move from an idea to adoption in clinical settings, including rural communities.

The visit was organized through Global Ties Iowa, which fosters international relationships through exchange programs and leadership delegations. This delegation was focused on U.S. health leadership and sought opportunities to connect with local MedTech and AI startups like NeuroPred.

A recent aerospace cluster study identified significant growth opportunities for Eastern Iowa, including satellite component manufacturing, defense technology, and aerospace suppliers.

The report specifically highlighted the potential for satellite-related companies to locate at the University of Iowa Research Park, leveraging connections to the University of Iowa and the Iowa Spaceflight Laboratory.
