SUNY Cortland Teach in Thailand 2014

SUNY Cortland Teach in Thailand 2014 This 6-credit hr. Study Abroad internship is open to graduate and undergraduate Elementary / Early Elementary Education and Adolescence Education majors.

Study Abroad (SAB 429, SAB 629) internship is open to graduate and undergraduate Elementary / Early Elementary Education majors as well as Adolescence Education majors in English, Science, Mathematics and Technology. It will provide students an opportunity to share expertise and teaching experiences across cultures. Participants will study and experience the Thai classroom culture and educational

system, and, perhaps most importantly, gain a better understanding of Thai teaching strategies and pedagogy. Another benefit of the program is that the student will learn something about the culture, religion and customs of Thailand, a country whose history dates beck thousands of years. Lastly, the teaching will be in an ESL immersion setting which will prepare teacher candidates for the challenges of working with ESL students in future classrooms.

I did have an interesting encounter on the street when I was out yesterday. An older gentlemen, I think because of my hat that I'm wearing, asked me if I was Australian and I told him no, that I was from America. I was asked if I was on vacation and I explained why I am in Thailand and what our students are doing. He then asked if they were teaching in Thai and I explained that they were at a bilingual school teaching in English. As the conversation progressed, thanked me three or four times for the work we are doing in helping the Thai children learn English and improving their education. It is a wonderful feeling to know that there are people here, who are outside of the education system, that seem appreciate what we are doing. Just another reason I love the Thai people.
