Juan Olazaran started his teaching career in Oaxaca, Mexico in a two-teacher school on Zapotecan Mountain, and since immigrating to the U.S. has been working as an elementary school teacher in Woodburn, Oregon. In 2024, he completed the College of Education's Dual Language Graduate Certificate Program.

“It helped me make more connections to my students and their families, navigating those diverse worlds and recognizing what strategies would work better for some students,” Juan says. In the same year, he was recognized for his work as an educator and won the Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) Teacher of the Year Award!

We are proud to share that Dr. Jenni Conrad, Assistant Professor of Social Studies and Teacher Education, was presented with the National Council for the Social Studies College and University Faculty Assembly Early Career Award!

Her research explores inclusive, justice-oriented teaching and curriculums, with a focus on how social studies teachers can support student dialogue and action on issues of power and injustice. She believes that "classrooms need to be spaces where students regularly question, discuss, and contribute to the choices we make as a society."
