For today's research spotlight, we're highlighting Guadalupe Saldivar, an Adult & Higher Education PhD candidate!

While working in higher education career services, Guadalupe began noticing that students from low-income or first-generation backgrounds often selected majors for job security that may not align with their academic interests. She was reminded of her own journey and began thinking about how these experiences could be evaluated. As a researcher, she now studies perceptions of social mobility amongst low-income college students.

Going forward, Guadalupe hopes to continue supporting students in achieving their aspirations and positively influencing educational policy through her research! Read more: beav.es/fhn

Terrence Scott is graduating with a master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education! After graduation, he plans to continue in his Instructional Designer role with Portland State University and explore teaching opportunities.

Having completed two internships with OSU Ecampus that focused on accessible course building and leadership strategies for online learning, Terrence says, “Each experience gave me new tools that deepened my work at PSU and strengthened my confidence in implementing strategies that support learners.”

Terrence gained a stronger understanding of theory and application for instructional design. He says, “I can bring those pieces together to design programs and curriculum with lasting impact. This feels especially important in a world where technology, including AI, continues to evolve and shape how we learn, work, and interact with the world around us.”

Terrence is interested in pursuing a terminal degree in the future, but for now, he hopes to rest, relax, and spend plenty of time hanging out with his cats Agnes and Kevin!
