Our B.S. degree in communication gives you a choice of concentrations in broadcasting, health communication, journalism or public relations.

Welcome to the Department of Communication. The faculty and staff of the department are committed to giving Western Carolina University students an excellent educational experience. In addition to their academic credentials, many of the department's faculty members bring years of extensive professional experience to the classroom. Each year, approximately 75 to 85 students earn their degree in communication in one of four concentrations--broadcasting, health communication, journalism and public relations. Currently, almost 200 students major in communication. Our facilities are equipped with the latest technology in order to provide students with marketable skills. In addition to a solid academic background, each student will participate in service or experiential learning in the region. Communication majors are required to do a professional internship. Western grads enter the most sought-after fields, often in major markets, thanks to their internship experiences. If you have questions about the Department of Communication, please contact me. The Communication Department and WCU Staff have been hard at work renovating the TV studio and we cant’t wait for the grand reveal!

This Saturday, stop by the Center for Applied Technology building to view the ribbon-cutting at 11:30 with our Chancellor Kelli R. Brown.

Tours of the studio and light refreshments will be available. Don’t forget to stop by, Catamounts!

Advising Day is approaching fast! Kick off your morning with the WCU Communication Department on Tuesday, October 27th at 8:30 AM in Apodaca 201.
