Saturday Nights at the Fujitsu Planetarium - De Anza College We have Family Astronomy Shows and Laser Shows. Tickets can be purchased online and at the door.

Astronomy Shows include: The Magic Tree House, Astronaut, Black Holes and many more. Laser Shows include: Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles. The Fujitsu Planetarium at De Anza College is the largest school Planetarium west of the Rocky Mountains and since our renovation, the Fujitsu Planetarium is one of the most modern Planetariums in the world. The Planetarium is shared by the Co

llege Astronomy and Community Education Departments. When used as a classroom, it serves over 2700 college students per year. The Astronomy program at De Anza is the largest in the California State Community College System. Community Education oversees the school field trips to the planetarium and weekend public shows as well as many special events. About 30,000 community members, including students from
pre-school through high school, attend these shows and events every year.

June 6–11: Venus glides through Gemini, threading the sky between Jupiter and the twin stars Pollux & Castor

Look west after sunset for a bright celestial lineup that feels almost choreographed. Venus blazes like a lantern, Jupiter glows nearby, and above them sit Pollux and Castor, the mythic twins of Gemini watching over the evening sky.

Each night Venus shifts a little farther along its path, turning the whole scene into a slow-motion cosmic parade. Watch from night to night and you can actually see Venus moving through the scene, weaving between ancient myth and planetary motion in real time.

It's a rare little moment where the Solar System feels alive and in motion above your head.

🌕✨ Blue moons are a little rare… and this one happens to be little!

On May 31, we’re treated to a rare Blue Moon—the second full moon in a single month—but this one comes with a twist. The Moon will be near apogee, the point in its orbit where it’s farthest from Earth, making it a micromoon that appears slightly smaller and dimmer than usual.

So while it won’t actually look blue, it will be a fun cosmic combo: a Blue Micro Moon—rare in timing and subtly smaller in size.

It’s like the Moon decided to show up twice in one month, but from the back row.

Step outside, look up, and catch this small-but-special full moon lighting up the night.

🌙🦁✨ Moon Meets the Heart of the Lion

Look up tonight to see the Moon glowing near Regulus, the bright star known as the heart of Leo the Lion.

Regulus sits at the center of Leo, one of the most recognizable constellations in the night sky. With the Moon nearby, the Lion seems to wake up a little—its “heart” shining steadily beside our drifting lunar companion.

Regulus has been known since ancient times as a royal star, marking strength and leadership in the sky. Tonight, it shares the stage with the Moon in a quiet cosmic pairing that’s easy to spot and fun to follow with your eyes.

Step outside, look up, and find the Lion watching over the night.

🌸🌕 May 1 — The Flower Moon & Beltane

On the night of May 1, the Full Flower Moon rises, glowing over a season of blooming life and longer days. This full moon aligns with Beltane, one of the ancient cross-quarter days, marking the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice—a time long celebrated as the height of spring.

And here’s a fun bonus this month…
May will have TWO full moons! The second one arrives on May 31, making it a Blue Moon—a rare second full moon in a single month.

So enjoy the Flower Moon to welcome the season and get ready for a special encore at the end of May!

Tonight, look up to see the Moon shining near Regulus, the bright star that marks the heart of the constellation Leo the Lion. 🦁🌌

Regulus has been known since ancient times as a “royal star,” and its steady glow makes it one of the easiest stars to spot in the spring sky. With the Moon nearby, it becomes even easier to find this celestial lion watching over the night.

Even though they appear close together tonight, the Moon is only about 380,000 kilometers away, while Regulus shines from about 79 light-years across space.

A Beautiful Sky Lineup After Sunset 🌙✨

Shortly after sunset, look toward the western sky and you may spot a lovely cosmic line forming. The Moon, the sparkling Pleiades, and bright Venus will appear arranged in a gentle line across the evening sky.

Venus shines like a brilliant lantern, the Moon glows softly nearby, and the Pleiades twinkle like a tiny cluster of diamonds. Though they look close together tonight, they are separated by enormous distances across space.

Step outside just after sunset, let your eyes adjust, and see if you can trace the glowing line connecting moonlight, planet-light, and starlight. ✨

🌙✨ April 2 - Moon Meets Spica

On the night of April 2, look up to see the Moon shining near Spica, the brightest star in the constellation Virgo the Maiden.

Spica appears like a tiny blue-white jewel in the sky, and the Moon’s glow will make it easier to spot as the two share the same region of the night sky. Even though they appear close together, Spica is actually about 250 light-years away, while the Moon is our nearby cosmic neighbor.

Step outside, let your eyes adjust, and enjoy this quiet pairing of moonlight and starlight in the spring sky.

Astronomy Update: A Perfect New Moon Tonight!

Tonight’s sky features a spectacular New Moon shining high above us. If you look up, you might notice it lighting the sky, casting shadows, and glowing bright enough to guide your way home.

Wait… something about that seems a little suspicious…

If you stepped outside and saw a big bright Moon instead of an invisible New Moon, you’ve solved the cosmic prank. Turns out the Moon decided to celebrate April Fulls by showing off its brightest face! 🌙✨
