The UNG Department of Public Safety is proud to recognize three members of our team who have recently received distinguished honors and professional recognition. These achievements reflect the exceptional dedication, professionalism, and commitment to service that are hallmarks of our department.

COII Eric Mason was honored with the Presidential Excellence Award, a prestigious distinction recognizing staff members who consistently go above and beyond in service to the university and its community.

COIII Megan King was selected to receive the Eleanor Crawford Award, which honors outstanding staff members for their extraordinary loyalty, dedication, and service to the University of North Georgia, fellow employees, and students.

Captain Paul Bennett has earned certification as an Emergency Services Chaplain, a rare accomplishment currently held by only eight individuals. This prestigious certification reflects his commitment to supporting first responders and serving our community during some of its most challenging moments.

We congratulate Eric, Megan, and Paul on these remarkable accomplishments. Their dedication and service continue to make a meaningful impact on our department, the university, and the communities we are honored to serve.

Traffic circles (roundabouts) are designed to improve traffic flow and reduce serious crashes, but they work best when everyone knows the rules.

✅ Slow down as you approach
✅ Yield to traffic already in the roundabout
✅ Use your turn signal when exiting
✅ Watch for pedestrians at crosswalks
✅ Cyclists: ride predictably and follow traffic laws

Remember: Vehicles inside the roundabout have the right of way. Taking a moment to slow down and stay alert helps keep everyone safe.

Whether you're heading to class, work, or campus events, let's work together to make our roads safer for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians!

The University of North Georgia Department of Public Safety, along with the University of North Georgia Public Safety Academy, are proud to introduce these 10 new graduates of the POST Instructors Training Course! This an intense and work-heavy 80-hour class that spans over three weeks. Over the three weeks, the students must pass a comprehensive written exam, design a narrative lesson plan, and then present the lesson plan for state certified evaluators. Thank you to the Cu***ng Police Department, University of Georgia Police Department, Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office, Oakwood Police Department, and Piedmont University for trusting us with the training of your staff!

The University of North Georgia Department of Public Safety hosted an emergency operations planning meeting last week to prepare for the Fourth of July celebrations set to occur on the Dahlonega campus.

The meeting brought together representatives from multiple agencies and organizations to coordinate plans, align resources, and strengthen collaboration ahead of the upcoming event. Key topics included crowd management, traffic control, emergency response coordination, communication strategies, and contingency planning to help ensure a safe and well-organized celebration for the community.

Through this joint planning effort, participating groups are working together to enhance preparedness, streamline response capabilities, and promote a unified approach to public safety during one of the busiest events of the year.

All participating agencies and organizations extend their appreciation to everyone who contributed their time, expertise, and commitment to this planning effort. This level of collaboration is essential to ensuring a safe and successful Fourth of July event.

Participating Groups Include:
- Dahlonega Downtown Development Authority: Dahlonega Main Street Program
- Dahlonega Police Department: Dahlonega City Hall
- Lumpkin County Emergency Services
- Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office

Join our team as a Public Safety Compliance Coordinator and play a critical role in maintaining excellence, accountability, and professionalism in law enforcement operations! This sworn position leads accreditation efforts, oversees records management and open records requests, and ensures compliance with state and federal standards. You’ll support policy development, manage crime data reporting, and help drive continuous improvement across the department.

This role is ideal for professionals who value organization, integrity, and making a meaningful impact behind the scenes of public safety operations.

Minimum Requirements:
• Active Georgia POST Law Enforcement Certification
• At least 3 years of law enforcement or related experience (compliance, records, or administrative focus)
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
